Supposedly a "change in the touring schedule" now prevents Hello Dolly from their confirmed stop i TO that was supposed to go from MAr 24 to MAy 3 . Prior to coming to Toronto it was playing a week in Rochester NY which should give them enough time to bus and truck it into Canada be4 the date. In fact, the schedule shows nothing between March 22 and May 5 when it goes to Schenectady (!?) Instead and as an "adequate" substitute they have dropped in the Menier production of "The Boyfriend" ( like expecting steak and getting sole instead- not BAD sole just not what u ordered!)
Something does not make sense here. AND I am royally PO'd as I was looking forward to this.

Posted: 12/19/19 at 6:12pmI’m so upset about this. I was really looking forward to seeing the show and I also bought additional tickets as holiday gifts. I’ve gotten used to Mirvish replacing shows in the subscription but never so close to the opening date that I can recall. I’ve been a subscriber for close to 20 years. Argh.

The Boy Friend isn't a terrible musical and this production has been getting good reviews in London. I do wonder what the real story is though.

it's odd that the show's website doesn't list Schenectady, NY as a stop. Is that getting canceled, too? Are they just ending the tour early? Is it not selling?
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

They wait this long. Now there isnt even a good seat to be had for the Buffalo stop. This wasnt decided yesterday if they already had a replacement show.
Im so done with Mirvish. They have taken us from a first run tour stop to a 4th. And then cancel anything good.

I assume this refers to someone possibly having passport or visa issues. The thought occurred to me also. It's not quite as easy as it used to be, traveling between the US and Canada.

Possibly, but more likely maybe one (or some) of them was told that if s/he went into Canada, then coming back to the US would be problematic. US border agents are being very, very weird these days.....

Garth Drabinsky has nothing to do with the esteemed Mirvish Production Company. I would think the Touring Production made the call to cancel, as Mirvish has a vital and healthy subscriber base. Maybe they are pulling the plug early on the tour. Sales were sluggish with Betty and maybe even less so with Carolee.

I hope there is no cancellation for Schenectady. I have tickets (via the subscription series). Actually, Carolee is originally from Albany NY. (neighboring city to Schenectady). So this final Dolly stop would basically be like a home coming for her.

But why cancel when u have a pre sold 6 weeks ?PLUS I know non subscribers who were buying as well. I would guess at least 2/3 to 3/4 of the show was already sold in Toronto. None of the earlier American shows are cancelled, so I'd say sales were fairly robust over all. If one of the performers had visa difficulties I'd expect that to have been know and dealt with by now and unless they were a lead, a substitution could be made. ( hells even if it was a lead a sub could have been brought in)

I suspisions its money- maybe the exchange rate to the producers or maybe the transport costs exchange rate, or even the split of the take. Yes I KNOW they have a contract but if the conditions change to where on party feels they cannot make enough money for it to be profitable I'm sure there is an escape clause. But a "scheduling change"? Nope, not believing it Probably never know the truth.
I never said The Boyfriend was a" terrible" musical but it was NOT what I wanted Not what I was sold and frankly have NO interest in seeing.
There are a number of other non subscription shows coming in including Cats, Miss Saigon, Phantom and I would have prefered to be offered one of them as an option instead.Hell I'd go see Come From Away again and that is already 2 years in so u know there are seats.

Not necessarily. Even US citizens have been told that coming back into the US could raise all manner of issues, mostly having to do with Canada's more generous pot laws. Or, in other words, "Sure, you can come back, and we'll be waiting for you with an arrest warrant when you do."
As I said, border agents on the US are very, very weird these days, which is why I have severely curtailed my trips to NY. I dont need the hassle of someone complaining I'm not bringing enough cash with me for a five day trip to Manhattan.

I don't think it was selling poorly in Toronto, because I needed to change the date on my Saturday night subscription tickets and usually when I change the date, I am able to get equivalent seats or better. When I changed for Hello, Dolly, they only had significantly worse seats available. I change my date for subscription shows all the time, and I have never had this issue before, which I had assumed was due to the fact that it was selling well. But maybe not.

I had no idea a non-equity leg was in the works. I think for one nighters in small communities this could sell, but these 2-6 week runs weren’t kind to Hello, Dolly at all. During the run in Cincinnati there were between 300-800 seats left at showtime for any given performance. People just aren’t interested in Hello, Dolly without a “star”, which is a damn shame, because Carolee is just a dynamo in the role.

I’m heartbroken the stop at Proctors is canceled. The final performance was scheduled to be on my 30th birthday and I thought seeing the final performance of my favorite show of the decade would be a lovely way to ring in my birthday.
I can still see it in Rochester but there are no good seats available for its entire run. Just so, so, so sad.
