Wait........I'm totally confused. Why are people talking about incest?  To my knowledge there was no force bonding happening between anyone; much less family members.

The "incest" thing is related to questions about exactly HOW Emperor Palpatine reproduces. Given that it's now canon, and no longer simply innuendo, that he is Anakin Skywalker's father through using the force in unnatural ways to impregnate Anakin's mother as a "virgin birth," people are now debating whether this makes Anakin Palpatine's biological son, Palpatine's clone, or merely Palpatine's creation.

Naturally, this throws a huge wrench into the family tree of the most important Jedi family in the series- hence the question of incest.

It was a fun watch, but I didn't love it.  I thought Force Awakens was a promising start to this trilogy, heralding back to the simpler story lines of the original trilogy and avoiding the convoluted mess of the second trilogy.  But Last Jedi hinted either towards another convoluted mess, but dropped breadcrumbs of simply leading back to the more familiar beloved stories that the world embraced in the 70s and 80s.  But no.  Abrams loves a parade of plot twists mixed in with his thigh-slapping laughs ("Those bad guys are so STUPID!  HAR-DE-HAR HAR!" and couldn't resist himself.  Rise of Skywalker was an unnecessarily convoluted mess.  I thought it made Last Jedi look like Hamlet by comparison.  I really hated the story line they finally settled on for Rey.  The shoehorned Carrie Fisher clips really didn't work.  Some excellent performances, especially Ridley and Isaac.  And D-O was my favorite thing about the whole film.  My husband and I came up with about a dozen questions immediately after watching, but in the end, we knew it wouldn't matter because a new franchise will be born among the new characters, plot holes will be spackled and more convoluted nonsense will be cranked out to appease the new generation of Star Wars stans.

Finally caught this. As someone who has grown to appreciate The Last Jedi with every subsequent viewing, generally was not a fan of how this movie seemed to walk back or rebuke so many of the more controversial elements of TLJ. It felt like two hours of fan service, with the nostalgia meter cranked up to 10. Love it or hate it, at least Last Jedi was an attempt to push the characters and the story in a new direction. 

Lastly, I wasn't the biggest fan of the Rose character in the previous movie, but for them to completely sideline her here feels totally like they were caving to the most racist and sexist of their 'fans', considering how Kelly Marie Tran was bulled and harassed on social media after TLJ came out.

I never understood why people say that TLJ pushed characters in a different direction.  Other than Luke (who does things that go against his character) - everyone ends the movie at the exact same place they started.

It somehow achieved the impossible. It was both shameless fan service but also managed to be confusing and fly in the face of my understanding of what could or could not happen in the Star Wars world. There was just a rush of new characters and action, along with random plot developments with no serious attempt to tell a story. The actors did what they could, but there was so little that made any sense that it was just plain irritating after a while. If anything can happen, and nothing really matters, than who cares? No one seemed to plan the trilogy at all, so Abrams and Rian Johnson just battled over it. Abrams' attempts to undo what Johnson had done was almost comical after a while. I had problems with The Last Jedi, but at least he was telling a story and had the only memorable moments of the whole new trilogy. I no longer will complain about Return of the Jedi, so there's that.
