I’m 22 and I still send fan mail. Not nearly as much as I did at one time, but I’d it’s something/someone I care about enough I will send to actors or to shows for a cast signed playbill.

Being an adult has nothing to do with being a fan of something. 90% of the people on these boards are adults and we are all fans of theater and certain people in it. Loosen up.

OP, I don't personally believe there's ever an age where you're "too old" to send fan mail to someone you admire. I'm sure as long as it's respectful and appropriate, performers love hearing the thoughts of their fans, be they 12 years old or 50.

Kathryn is a sweetheart. Have fun writing to her!

22 and I still send fanmail as well (though admittedly, they mostly go to stage managers). Don't let people get you down about it, I've seen people in their 30's still write to their favorite actors/actresses.
I never include my age in my letters anyway, it's irrelevant. So you wouldn't even have to worry about, "Will he/she think I'm too old for this?!" If anything, just write a bit differently since you are older, if you know what I mean. (example: don't gush along the lines of, "YOU'RE SO AMAZING AND I LOVE YOU")

I’m 55 and I sent a letter to the entire cast and creatives of The Waverly Gallery in January (I was 54 at the time).

That is NOT too old; adults stage door and and send fan mail all the time; this is the prime age to do it!  I don't think many younger kids write fan mail for shows other than Disney shows; for other shows it's teens and adults (and technically you are both).  Any actor or actress will probably really appreciate your thoughtful gift. :)

I don't think most people under 30 know what a "letter" is (or how to go about mailing one)!

As long as you're not "stalkery", any age is fine.

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. Try to be a little nicer to people, at least during the Christmas Season.

I’m 60 and would send fan mail if I knew how and had the time. Just too busy to sit down and write a letter. Come to think of it, I haven't written a letter in decades. Maybe I could send a postcard via TouchNote, that would be quicker to draft and mail. :)

No age limit whatsoever, just keep it respectful and kind, and you are good to go!

I see no reason why there should be an age limit, or why age need even be mentioned in a letter.

I'm 30 and I send short notes to favorite actors who've inspired me or whose performances I particularly enjoyed all the time. My grandmother, before she passed, was still doing it at 83 (and stage dooring sometimes!). There's no age limit on it; as others have said, stay respectful, don't gush too much, and you'll be just fine.

If you want her to send back a signed Playbill, make sure you include a SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope); pretty much everyone will sign and return if you do, in my experience!

I dont there is an age limit here, in fact, its simply a lovely idea.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

As long as you don't start out with: "I'm your biggest fan."  surprise

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Sending a letter or note to a performer because you enjoyed the performance is fine at any age.  As long as it is well-boundaried and not desirous of other contact (or overly gushy) I'd imagine it's flattering.

I cant think of any performer, professional or otherwise, who would turn down a message saying how good they were in something.

There is no age limit on telling someone that you enjoyed their performance and admire their work.

I'm old enough to have attended the Last Supper and still write fan letters from time to time. In some instances this has led to dressing room visits or meeting for drinks after the show.

It was a fan letter to my beloved Carol Channing that led to one of the most cherished friendships I've ever had.

Dead is too old (unless you're writing Beetlejuice). Anything before that, have fun. Just make sure to write age appropriate letters.

I'm nearly 3x the age of the OP and I send notes to actors on Twitter, but not actual letter-letters. And since I use my actual picture on Twitter, not Fiyero lying on a couch with a book over his face LOL, it's obvious Im not 18. I'm complimentary about their performances but not gushy. It's awesome when they respond or even "like" or "heart" my comment. I hope it's really them and not an assistant. LOL Betty Buckley, Leslie Margherita, Carolee Carmelo, and Rob McClure are very active and I've enjoyed my online interactions with them.
