He appeared recently on the "Being Frank" interview show in Hamilton and did not look well. He never really recovered after the death of his son Danny Aiello III. Now they can get together again.
RIP kid- u went the distance.
I worked with Danny on an excellent production (not bragging: I was just the b.o. treasurer) of THAT CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON. Brilliant actor, lovely man. He went on to so many amazing performances, I wouldn't even try to list them. (But Spike Lee's DO THE RIGHT THING was surely a career highlight!)
Alas, Fort Lauderdale wasn't ready for heavy drama in the summer months in the mid-1970s, but the actors (also including George Dzundza and Larry Pressman) were consummate professionals night after night in front of mostly empty seats. My staff and I attended almost every performance just because we thought such fine work deserved our support.
The quintessential "New York" actor, he had his niche and whether comedy or drama, filled it as well as anyone. Rest in peace, Danny.
