I'd like for them to film it before it closes.

That kind of childish riposte from Brightman does not belong to Broadway!

It's called improv, unclutch those pearls! And that is nothing compared to the behavior of other people on Broadway.

Also, the "stans" don't understand anything, and we all know they don't impact sales of any kind considering 99% of them have never purchased a Broadway ticket. I love the big bump for Beetlejuice, and I hope they kill it the next 6 months.

Pearls are not clutched and I'm definitely chill, as another poster told me to do. Just my opinion that these issues don't need to appear on the stage. We're all allowed to feel differently.

I read that Tweet as a joke and that the change was planned - the winking face at the end of the tweet sold it for me

This was definitely planned, and I'm not offended by it. I just think it's beneath everyone.

As if the Brigadoon line it replaced was highbrow in the first place. Neither are real jabs at those shows, just now the line has a meta meaning.

For a message board that is constantly complaining about people being easily hurt and offended, the outrage over a dumb joke is astounding. The Music Man is still getting their theater in the end, so let Brightman have some harmless fun as I'm sure the situation is weighing on him. The line was lowbrow (though amusing) to begin with and I guarantee you those involved in The Music Man aren't losing any sleep over it.

Wow, was offline for a week... people really have a lot of opinions on contract law.

A couple of things I wanna say.

<<edits by Moderator>>

Secondly, in any situation, people are entitled to their thoughts and feelings on a given matter. That said, the other day at work, there was a meeting for the cast. And while I was doing my understudy inserts, I was asked by someone in the cast if I knew how many tickets were sold. When I responded by saying we were sold out, they shook their head and muttered to themselves that they are selling out and STILL getting kicked out.

Point is, yes, if they feel like getting evicted; they are entitled to feeling that way. While we can discuss contract law on here, and what was allowed to be done etc, it is still their jobs. They are clearly pissed because they felt that the whole thing was handled poorly. Hence Brigbtman changing the line. Something, by the way I have no feelings over one way or another.

Is the winky emoji lost on that many people? That’s disappointing. Aren’t most of you digital natives?!

People acting like this is the worst thing Alex Brightman has done clearly don’t remember the Playbill twitter takeover.

I don't. Care to shed some light?

(Not sarcasm, I'm just not on social media often)

I never thought I'd be the one to say this, but people have GOT to chill about this whole situation. How upset they're getting is absolutely ridiculous. I understand being mad, my GOODNESS people are acting like it's the end of the world! My favorite show closes soon and I'm not blaming the next show on thats happening in that theater. It's absolutely ridiculous. I understand being upset. I DO. It's a messy situation. But aside from buying tickets (I think Kerry Butler said people should buy them for Jan./Feb. in particular?), what else can people do? ALSO, people are claiming the show is being forced out...if they were, wouldn't the show close earlier than JUNE?? People, ya have SIX MONTHS to enjoy the show that brings so much joy. ENJOY IT. CELEBRATE IT. But DO NOT blame it on the next show coming In. That's business. Just facts.

Brightman's clearly working "within the brand" of Beetlejuice thumbing its nose at Broadway culture in general. They may be the only Broadway show tweaking their competitors like this, but this ties into the show's connection to social media; if you've followed the rise of "Brand Twitter" over the past year, all the fast food and junk food companies have become these irreverent, self-aware voices on Twitter picking publicity pseudo-feuds with each other.

Love it. Brightman is playing to the fans and the social network he (and the cast) have worked really hard to build up. Despite luke warm reviews and everyone giving it an early death sentence, BJ has defied odds to become relevant. Great for BJ. Great for Brightman. And if you don't like it, I'm sure Beetlejuice really doesn't give a damn.

Talk of a transfer got me curious of the National Theater in DC's specs (where it premiered). If anyone is curious and compare it to Broadway theaters: https://s3.amazonaws.com/pa-spaces.production/attachments/16106/Technical-Specs-5.24.13.original.pdf?1417621028
