WOW @ the NYT. Totally thrilled!

And Miles2Go2, the Jagged Little Pill instagram account livestreamed curtain call and it's still available to watch; Alanis did speak, as did Paulus.

I was watching the May 22, 2018 7:30PM show at the A.R.T and from posts here and reviews coming in not much has changed in the Broadway iteration. I was very much paying attention and that is why I know the song was so very negligently utilized. Apparently I saw the same show that Auggie27 and a few others did! I'll just gratefully point to what Auggie27 said in his 8:49PM post (and all his other posts) to further explain the problem to you. I could just as easily ask you what show were you watching and not paying attention to not notice this huge disconnect, but to each his own.
"

Seems there is a split as others here knew why she was singing it also. Not so much "to each hs own" as how everyone perceived it.

Yes she was there and yes she spoke at curtain call. I wasn't there but the Jagged Little Pill Instagram page live streamed it.

Guess they werent paying attention. Same way people got upset during Predator. It's obvious what is gonna happen there as it's pretty obvious why Jo is so upset.

I am SO happy that the reviews are proving to be positive, which is what I think Jagged Little Pill deserves.

There is constructive criticism, and then there are bitchy underhanded, totally untrue hate filled comments that filled this board for months, completely unhelpful for a show in previews.

Sorry haters, you lose.
"

What exactly do they lose? A negative reaction doesn’t invalidate someone else’s appreciation of a show.

I just feel like Brantley wouldn't have been this enthusiastic this time around...

I don't know, man. I find it kind of mind-boggling when something like The Inheritance is giving a mixed review (by no means a great play, oftentimes bad. But compared to this, is practically Pulitzer worthy) but then this goes around and gets a Critic's Pick. I usually put so much faith in the Times to help me decide what to see, but having already seen this show as press and finding it to be one of the worst things I've ever endured..this NYT review would have really, really steered me the wrong way.

But like always, to each their own! All of the performers deserve work and success.

The people I am referring to had more than a negative reaction to the show. I am not criticizing those with valid comments. It's the ones who spewed hate for the sake of it, the ones who clearly had an agenda, almost wanting the show to fail. Those people "lose" because the show is well-received.

AGAIN, everyone is of course entitled to their opinion but if you read through the preview thread, you'll instantly be able to tell the difference.

Excellently written review, with all fair points. Makes me wonder what Sara Holden would’ve thought of it - would’ve been a fascinating read.

Jesse Green gives the show a lot of credit for improvement on its previous incarnation in the Times review, and for centering the show around Elizabeth Stanley. It's not a glowing review but it is a positive one. (I'm not counting the "Critic's Pick" designation, because most shows get that.)

It also wasn’t a necessary comment, but you took the time to make it anyway. By definition, it’s a dig. An issue many members on this board fail to realize is that plain text type does not imply tone and it should be assumed that someone will take your b**chy comment at face value, not the snarky inflection you’d say it with out loud.

Regardless, count me as one who believes this to be one of the most self-congratulatory and (as the majority of the reviews say) virtue signaling pieces I’ve ever seen. Are any of these issues unworthy of examination in the theatre? Absolutely not. But I’d equate the premise and execution of those themes to that friend on Facebook who constantly has an opinion and outraged, but doesn’t actually participate in activism and demonstration to affect real change. i don’t get the critical warmth to this, but have a strong suspicion that many of these reviews have a strong affection for the masterwork that is the original album. It’s an album that had such a meteoric impact on people’s lives that it would be next to impossible to critique without that being an influence.

Helen Shaw nailed it. Amazing music, absurd moments of insincere wokeness. Welcome to NY Mag, Ms. Shaw!

I usually find myself nodding in agreement with Jesse Green, so was quite surprised by his review. He seemed to be giving extra credit for Most Improved since Out of Town? To each their own.

Honestly I find Green an awful, awful critic. Happy you're all happy because I've literally no skin in the game. I've never seen a show I wanted to leave more than this one, ha. But whatever. If it succeeds good for it! I will say, and I think a lot of the reviews are pointing it out, that for a jukebox musical, the song do seem to fit organically. But that said, I still think the entire thing is just flat-out awful from design to choreography to direction. But I do hope Stanley gets some mention come Tony time.

Helen Shaw really pointed out my problem with this show " Also, who are they? It’s an important plot point that Frankie lives in wealthy Metro-North exurbia, surrounded by and stifled by whiteness. The chorus, however, has been carefully selected for maximum diversity."

mostly positive reviews for this show and that NYT review will be a big boost for them. So happy for this show and hope it has a  long run.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Agree. Each time people post their initial thoughts on a show (any show) from previews, there are a bunch that are constructive but there are also a lot that feel like “I’m gonna bash it just because”. As if they’re rooting for it to fail
