I don’t even think they’d need to de-age her really....
What if they do this like Evita at City Center? Where the characters when they’re young are played by different folks than the act 2 versions of them? Isn’t there like at least a 10-20 year difference between acts? Anyway, it wouldn’t be the first Daldry has used this concept... re: The Crown.
I understand that they start in college, but I’ve never understood the obsession with casting very young Elphabas and Glinda. The Wicked Witch should be quite mature by the end of the story. If one more person suggests Ariana Grande...

At this point I'd love Idina and Kristin to be in the film. It would be amazing if Idina was Elphie's mom in the beginning, and Kristin would be a hilarious Morrible.
I’m pretty sure she was joking. She’s previously said she’s too old for the role and de-aging someone in film is incredibly expensive. Considering she isn’t that much of a box office draw they may as well get a star for the money they’d spend on the de-aging process. Someone said it before but I’d love to see her play Melena, Elphaba’s mother. Not sure where Chenoweth could fit into the film - maybe they’d create a fun role for her ala Chita Rivera in Chicago?

The show has made so much money on Broadway in the last 16 years. I'm sure they'd be willing to splash a little extra on de-aging.

She’s a singer, not an actress. She’s shown her acting limitations on several platforms: HAIRSPRAY Live! and as host on SNL and it left an enormous amount to be desired.

That would be really cool! Someone made a storyboard/animatic of the end of Defying Gravity in a 2D-Disney style, and it looked amazing. If Idina can play a 21-year-old in an animated movie and make it an iconic character for the ages, I'm sure she could play Elphaba if they did it animated. OR highlight someone else who has played the role, and "stunt-cast" some of the other parts.
