SING STREET @ NYTW |

It’s either an original song, or it was written for the movie and cut from it. It’s not an ‘80s hit, and you’re correct that it’s not in the movie.I thought the songwas beautiful!"
Same, I loved it! Would love to listen to a recording!
JBroadway, thanks so much for posting the song list!
I read that new songs were written for the stage version, so I assume that's what I Will Dream For You must be.
I have a stupid question. I do not think that Sing Street has a Playbill, but do the give out any sort of program? The last Off Broadway show I went to did not.

Not stupid at all – yes NYTW hands out their own style of programs, including SS.

After it closes Off-Broadway and before it has enough time for previews and opening before the Tony cutoff?
I recently caught this and was completely taken with it. This is unique combination of Spring Awakening, Once, and School of Rock, and it WORKS. The music is absolutely stunning, and the staging, while very simple, is VERY effective and gave me goosebumps at multiple times. The cast is uniformly strong. I really liked this.

Would that be early - mid March then at the latest?

The Tony cutoff is usually late April, so that’d give them a bit more time. Hopefully it’ll transfer whenever it’s ready! That may be immediately after their Off-Broadway run or maybe next season if they decide they’d like to put some more work into it and/or not compete with some of the other musicals opening this year (assuming it’ll be considered a musical, which seems to be a debate on here for reasons I don’t understand.)

Same here! Sing Street was definitely better than any other new musical I have seen on Broadway thus far this season.

The NYTW run doesn't end until Jan 26, so seems doubtful. Has a show ever announced a Broadway run before even ending their off-Bway run?

The only exception I can find is Hamilton, but honestly nothing can beat that original Hamilton hype obviously so we might not find out for Sing Street at least until the run is over.
Edit: More have as I've looked into it. Shows like Dear Evan Hansen, Fun Home, and Be More Chill did, but only near the end of their off-B'way run (probably at least until the off-B'way run was sold out).

Sing Street ending in late January and the Tony cut off being in April gives them ~12 or 13 weeks to get the transfer announced, on sale, moved in, previewed and opened.
I would assume they’d want to get tickets on sale as soon as possible. Will be interesting to see the timeline on this one.

I'm imagining they'll announce the transfer after: the NYTW run fully sells out, or the day after they open (whichever comes first). The good news is that even though this transfer will be swift, it'll be on a wave of a sold-out run, great word of mouth, and most likely positive reviews. Might as well ride the hype wave while it's forming, instead of after it crashes. (For example, I think Slave Play would've been a much bigger hit had they not waited an entire year to transfer).

I heard producer Barbara Broccoli is working with the Shuberts on a BWAY transfer to the Lyceum previews March - opening April
My friend won the lottery so I was back for the matinee today (great seat - F19). This show just keeps getting better with each viewing! Broke down and grabbed a ticket for the final performance in January. Anyone else going?
Changes are still being made! Below are the ones I noticed today (Sun matinee) between dress rehearsal and the Dec 3 performance:
I don't know exact titles of songs, so I'm taking a stab
-(Dec 3) Bendan begins the show in the miniature house (began Dec 3 as they received the lighter 2nd version over the weekend before)
-(Dec 8) In the first family scene, the mom brings out a candle burning in a wine bottle - emphasizing the cost cutting.
-(Dec 8) Connor didn't pull out his pocket notebook in the scene where he shows Brendan the lyrics for Riddle of the Model for the line about "or stipulation, but I didn't know how to spell it." (I forgot the exact phrasing). Maybe a mistake?
-(Dec 8) Aemon says he's gone through 3 rabbits...better than the 15 rabbits that line used to be.
-(Dec 8) Raphina almost touches Conor's face in Lift Me Up - more emotional interaction than I saw previously.
-(Dec 8) Brendan actually pulls and holds the guitar the first time he reminisces with it... vs just putting a hand on it on Dec 3 and having the guitar in a case vs on the wall on dress rehearsal
-(Dec 8) Darren puts the camera on skateboards center stage rather than bringing it down to floor in front of the front row.
-(Dec 8) During the song in the hallway, the bully is watching the performance from the aisle next to the seats house left. He heckles the Brother/priest from this same spot and the Brother chases him up the steps...vs they were on stage and ran off backstage in previous performances.
-(Dec 8) The fight scene with the band after the Freedom song in the hallway was way more intense than in previous performances. You really felt the fighting - but it made the "make up" scene with Aemon/Darren later feel weak IMO.
-(Dec 8) The biggest change today was the school assembly/Brown Shoes scene.. the Brother/priest starts the assembly by pulling a microphone and stand center stage. It's used fantastically by the band during the song they sing during the assembly - a la Mick Jagger during a concert. I loved it.
-(Dec 8) Barry gets the spotlight for a few verses in Brown Shoes - he plays piano, jumps on it for a few verses and does a jump off it. Then he switches to a guitar.
My friend also won the lottery for the Dec. 8 matinee, so I got to see it again! (Also great seats, Row H. Thanks, NYTW!)
I had seen the first preview (on Nov. 25), and I wish my memory for these things was better, because I'm sure there were lots of changes. But here are my thoughts. Putting them in the spoiler box:
In the first preview, the actor playing Brendan is in the bed on stage as the audience enters. As CarmenA3 noted, now the actor is hidden inside a dollhouse-like structure on stage, which is quite beautiful and must have been expensive to build. (Maybe they'll use it on Broadway.) But I felt sorry for the actor that now he has to be scrunched up for a half hour instead of lying comfortably in a bed. LOL
On Dec. 8, I was struck by the band's early rough patch, where they were jarringly out of tune and playing wrong notes. Eamon's mom comes in and talks to them about listening to one another. Then they start playing better. I don't remember that from the first preview, but maybe it's my bad memory.
(A very slight spoiler follows:)
I had a question about the beautiful song, I Will Dream for You (which is not in the movie). It starts with a fragment of a hymn sung by Brother Baxter, who is sitting on the side of the stage. I believe that part is a cappella. Then Conor starts singing I Will Dream for You, and I think that is also a cappella. After that, the rest of the band joins in at various points.
I am wondering what the connection is between Brother Baxter and the song. I was watching Martin Moran's face as he sang (he sounds amazing), and I was wondering if he were feeling remorse or having an emotional breakthrough about how badly he treats the students. But I didn't see any sign of contrition on his part.
Then I thought maybe both parts of the song can be considered to be a prayer of sorts
So basically I'm asking, does the arrangement of this song serve to connect Brother Baxter and Conor or to contrast them?
