Fastest way from midtown to Astor Place? |
Yeah, I just didn't know if it might be easier with the car given my 25-minute window, but my impulse is always that subway should win...
Barring some sort of subway issue, the R/W is absolutely the way to go.

Please remember that since we are talking Saturday, there are no W trains and the N runs local, so if the N pulls in at 49th street, don't be afraid to take it.
I just double checked this weekend's schedule and fortunately, there don't seem to be any changes to the N/R this weekend.

No problem. It's my line in Brooklyn, so I'm always checking it. Problems for my end of it, but not in Manhattan

oops I put the wrong direction!!! the S shuttle to Grand Central where you can get on the 4-5 and switch at union square to the 6 or you can just get on the 6 at grand central and ride a few extra stops to astor place.
my current favorite app is Transit (Transit App, Inc.) To save you a minute, you can pre-load the destination and either save it or just leave it atop your recents.

I'll check it out, thanks. Rather know how much time I have to catch the next train...
I Am Reading, you're going the wrong way.
I've found that both Apple Maps and Google Maps on iOS have gotten really good with real-time train schedules recently (can't speak for Google Maps on Android). MTA keeps updating their mobile site and it's also pretty reliable as well nowadays.

I used Google Maps on my android during my trip last week and it was very handy. It does a greatj ob of giving updates on delays, departures and arrivals in real time so you'll know exactly when you'll arrive.
