In today's San Francisco's Bay Area Report there is an interview with Beth Leavel in advance of her cabaret show at Feinstein's at the Nikko. It reads,
"In fact, Leavel says she's on the brink of a major Broadway announcement. "Hopefully I'll be able to tell everyone in San Francisco."

Anyone have a scoop?"
I'm going to the Feinstein's performance next week - super excited that she's coming to the Bay Area!!
Kitsune, I'm jealous! I can't make her shows but I am seeing Lesli Margherita in a couple weeks. I love Feinstein's! Please report back if Beth makes any announcement!

Whatever she’s doing, I hope it’s a new musical that hasn’t been announced yet. We’re so lacking for good new musicals coming out right now."
Maybe change 'a lot of sense' to 'I want it to happen'. It seems like a seminal Broadway role for older women, and it's one she has yet to do. Plus I'l love to see her in the role.
I do agree that if it isn't that then it should be a new musical, and not another cursed jukebox.

I think the point being made is that if you're going to do a 5th Gypsy revival, you've got to have a big name in the starring role. Beth Leavel can get a decent turnout for a few nights in a 150 seat cabaret but is in no way, shape or form a big enough name to sell tickets to Gypsy. That's not a knock on her talent or ability but she's in the "also starring Beth Leavel" category, not the above the title category where people will buy a ticket on her name alone.

I know this says “Broadway,” but the reporter could be confused; it could be a tour (THE PROM? OKLAHOMA?) or an Encores show (Muzzy in MILLIE?).
Trying to think of musicals for this season that aren’t fully cast yet... FLYING OVER SUNSET? CAROLINE OR CHANGE?
Could be something for a future season... “Sweet Sue” in SOME LIKE IT HOT (which is doing a workshop in Jan-Feb)? Vera in MAME (prob wouldn’t happen for another 2+ years). A gender-flipped Ben Franklin in 1776? DEVIL WEARS PRADA?
Mama Morton in CHICAGO? (Hey, a gig’s a gig!)
Let’s hope is something totally new and off the radar!

Fair point. I am self admittedly not very knowledgeable about the finance side of show biz, so I appreciate the insight.

I love the idea of her as Sweet Sue!
A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.
Any chance she’d do a Beauty and the Beast revival? Gypsy is also on my mind. Sweeney Todd was also just announced by The Muny. She told me she’d been sitting on this over a month ago and I can’t wait to find out!
