https://www.broadwayworld.com/westend/article/CITY-OF-ANGELS-Will-Transfer-to-the-West-End-20191101

There is a limited run of City of Angels just announced to play the West End. Could this be the key to gettting a revival on Broadway? I wondered if this production does well, if anyone would consider bringing it across the pond. Also, note Vanessa Williams is making her West End debut in the role originated by Dee Hoty (Carla/Alaura).

Fingers are crossed!

I've been waiting for a Broadway revival of this forever.

Very excited for this and the cast. Was hoping that we’d get something like this.
"Rose in Gypsy was like going through therapy for me. Playing Rose helped me put a lot of emotions to bed. There was so much lacking in Rose and that's why she had to prove herself through her children. [interviewer]In ways that reminded you of your mom?[/interviewer]. Let's just say the role was very interesting for me. That one was the most interesting [I've ever played]" - Bernadette Peters (2018)

I'd love to see it revived here, but Vanessa is co-hosting a new talk show next season, but hopefully it airs from NYC and she can do both.

The original was famously a big failure in London (a 4-month run starring Roger Allam, Martin Smith, and Henry Goodman). I adore the show and am interested in seeing how this fares.

Casting for Stone (the James Naughton role) and Buddy Fiddler (the Rene Auberjonois role) hasn't been announced yet, so maybe they're trying to secure a star.

I feel a little bad for Tam Mutu. Yeah, Moulin Rouge is a nice paycheck, but it's an AWFUL role...he hardly gets to sing!

Josie O'Rourke doesn't know how to direct a musical. I have seen both City of Angels and Sweet Charity and both were directorial duds, despite how good the classic writing and splendid the performances in both productions.

Hadley Frasier is just not a leading man, no matter how much British producers pretend he is.

City's Rosalie Craig's performance of "It Needs Work" was a master class however!

It worked when I saw it at the Donmar theater. A unique musical and with Vanessa Williams a treat indeed.

I’ve been waiting for this moment since the original run; I’m so excited for this! Rosalie was amazing in her role, so I’m glad she gets another go at it.

Saw the show on Broadway and really liked it, Tom Wopat was "Stone" when I saw the show.

With the trend of filming West End shows, it would be amazing if they filmed this. I know it isn't likely, but it would be great.

Any suggestions???? I go to London on March 11-15--- and have already booked 6 shows and do not have room for any more- but will just overbook if anyone thinks one of the ones I picked is a dud or- I can do better--Leopoldstatz- new Stoppard play---Hamiton second row center---SIX, The Visit- Tony Kusner adapted it at the National Theater, &Juliet--rock musical, sounds a bit like Moulin Rouge, which I loved, and Nora- a modern adaptation at Young Vic.  No where to fit City of Angels- and I cannot extend my trip.  Is there anything I am currently booked for that you would just not bother with- and see City of Angels instead?  I really do not care about losing a couple of bucks- I go for theater and want to maximize my experience.

Well, SIX you can eventually see on Bway (your seats to Hamilton are too good to give up) and you probably won't get the chance to see any of the soley Brit productions anywhere ever again...

... and maybe because & Juliet mirrors the plot of the fictional bad musical in Bway's Tootsie... it just sounds like something that will be closing after about a month...

Vanessa Williams is an International Treasure. I would fly across the pond to see this

I also love Vanessa Williams- saw her in the Sondheim musical years ago at Studio 54- I think Barbara Cook was also in that, if I remember correctly- and I do love her voice. &Juliet opened last night in London- will read the reviews as soon as they come out- and that could be the one to just overlook- seeing Hamilton at 2:30, SIX at 6PM- then a walking tour of Jack The Ripper- at 8PM- so cannot move SIX. My brother will be worn out- but he knows what it is like to go to London with me.

Well there’s a dozen different Jack the Ripper walking tours in London and some of them start late at night so check to see if you can do one of those later ones and then you’ll have a free slot, although you’ll be cutting it really close for a 7:30 start time for “Angels” if you stick with the 6pm “Six”. Otherwise, do that and look for another performance of “Six” that you can squeeze in at either 4pm or 6pm, depending on their performance schedule.

Also, when looking for those Ripper tours, check other tours like the Sweeney Todd tours that also cover the Rippers path.
