Remember Lola? She was a pretty amazing performer in Vegas during the 70's and 80's. She also had a role in Golden Boy w Sammy Davis Jr and she starred in Doctor Jazz on Broadway, and got great reviews for her performance.
There's a new off broadway show happening at Joe's Pub on Monday November 18th. It's telling her story from her humble beginnings in jersey to being the highest paid entertainer during sin city's golden age.
I remember her well. She was also in a Broadway musical called Doctor Jazz in the mid-70's that failed at the box office but earned her a Tony nomination. A dynamic performer.

The role you may be thinking of was played by Altovise Davis. (married to Sammy Davis Jr.) Fred Sanford had a big crush on Lola Falana as well as Lena Horne. (Sanford & Son)
The only time I saw her onstage was in the touring company of Golden Boy with Davis when it played the Auditorium in Chicago back in the sixties. Gloria DeHaven was also in it.
