This remarkable play opens tonight. I Really hope to see mostly raves when reviews start coming in in a couple hours.

I'm excited for these reviews. Everything I've heard about the show, and Mary-Louise Parker in particular, has been breathtaking. Really hope I can make the trip down to see it.

I really enjoyed this and by the end I wanted to see it again to understand the show even more. Beautifully directed too.

I absolutely loved everything about this play. Mary Louise Parker proves once again that she is one of the best dramatic actresses of our time.

I went yesterday afternoon. A play that engages the head and heart. Cromer's work is exquisite, and a riveting, career performance from Parker.

A rave from the New York Times. Green says Parker has never been better in her thirty-year stage career, calls Hochman her worthy partner, loves the tweaks Rapp made between Williamstown and now, and above all praises Cromer's directing:

Yeah, I think the Tony is Parker's to lose at this point...and ironically she could "lose" it to herself if How I Learned How to Drive is anywhere near as well-done.

Look at Green's review and that's what basically every other critic thought. Not exactly a surprise. Anyone who's seen it knows it's the best play of the season.

Another favorable review, plus raves of David Byrne's American Utopia and Forbidden Broadway, and a nice take on Marisa Tomei too.

Saw the show last night and I’m honestly still reeling. It’s been going through my head nonstop, wondering and thinking about all the possibilities and questions that it raises. I can not recommend this play enough. Acting was superb all around.

After this and Band’s Visit, I am officially a member of the church of David Cromer.

I want to add to the chorus of approval for this play.  I saw it several days ago and I'm still haunted by it.  It's one of the most mesmerizing evenings I've spent in the theatre in a long time.   If Mary-Louise Parker isn't nominated for a Tony (she should have been nominated for Heisenberg), the nominators should be impeached.  This is a beautiful, detailed, and deeply moving performance.  And the young actor Will Hochman matches her perfectly.  Go!

Okay, tonight was my first night of my trip. I saw The Sound Inside. Wow what powerful performances Will Hochman and especially Mary-Louise Parker are giving. I know others have stated there are multiple ways to interpret what happened on stage. I’m not sure I got all that. I’d love to have that conversation with people so feel free to PM me. I really liked this though.

I bought the window card, magnet and the faux typewriter (I thought it was a unique souvenir).

I also stagedoored. There weren’t that many of us. Both actors came out although it took awhile for MLP to come out. She was so apologetic for making us wait in the rain. I just thanked her for coming out at all. I was also able to thank both actors for the gift of their performances. I also predicted more Tony magic in MLP’s future between this and the upcoming How I Learned To Drive. (I honestly don’t know they both don’t get Tony nominations for this) She humbly stated she hoped they could pull it (How I Learned to Drive) off. I said I had full faith in her. They both signed my windowcard. As she walked away to her waiting SUV, she reached out and touched my arm. What a lovely, talented human being.

Also, I was sitting left orchestra row D on the aisle and when I looked across the aisle I thought I saw Billy Crudup across the aisle but I wasn’t sure. But then I was telling people at stage door that I thought I had seen him and then when MLP came out, I was so enraptured with her that I didn’t notice who came out of the stage door with her. But as she was getting into the SUV, the people next to me pointed out that it was Billy Crudup and he was getting in the front of the SUV.

Also, when I was entering the theater there was a woman talking to the staff and stating that she had a gift to send backstage. I thought she said they were nuts? And I thought the lady looked familiar but I couldn’t quite place her but I think now it might’ve been Malinda Dillon who I best snow from A Christmas story and The Prince of Tides. Not sure though.

I caught this before xmas and loved it, too. So thought provoking, so mesmerizing. 2 lovely performances, will be rootizng for noms for both of them.

So I saw this this afternoon. Agree that it's a remarkable play. I do want to discuss everyone's interpretation of Chris though.

I also go into the scenarios at the bottom of this blog post:

https://humbledandoverwhelmed.blogspot.com/2019/12/mets-new-wozzeck-waltzing-into-misery.html

Here are my possible four theories:

Click Here To Toggle Spoiler Content

1. Chris was never real. Just a literary device that helped end her writers block. This was hinted at by her writing in the notebook at the end about his death.

2. Chris was real, and the story he wrote was actually his murder confession, and he killed himself after leaving her apartment.

3. Chris left her apartment after not killing her because he realized she was deeply troubled and so she creates a new ending for him bc it's too hard to face the fact that he simply walks out of her life. I was thinking that from his perspective he's a freshman in college and some lady wants him to help her with assisted suicide. It might have been too much for him so he did the honorable thing and left her alive.

4. To take her word for everything and that Chris really did just drop off his novel, not kill her, and died.

Miles, do you remember how much the typewriter was? I neglected to buy it last month when I saw the show.
