Up on Playbill. This is exciting but I’m sure Nick won’t be filming the entire musical. There will probably be quite a few cuts involved.

Thrilled that they're getting most of the Broadway cast for this, and thrilled more people will get to see this joyful show. One of my favorites in recent memory, this is wonderfully good news!

^ On that note

Important to spell out that Christina Sajous will be playing Sandy Cheeks in lieu of Lilli Cooper

If anything were to get cut, I’d suggest the whole Patrick subplot where those fish create a cult around him. It was the only part of the show that I felt was kind of unnecessary. I’ll be really upset though if they cut “Daddy Knows Best”. The world NEEDS to hear Jai’len Josey belt her face off! Regardless, I’m super excited to watch this so soon! Hopefully there will be a DVD/Blu-ray release as well.

I think the eclectic nature of the score means that we will be getting pretty much the whole show, but maybe extended numbers will have some interior cuts as they do in small places on the tour. I can’t imagine the various composers or their estates will let their song be cut for what is subjectively the show’s most widespread release.

Is this like a “live” version or just the stage show recorded? Guess they have the set in storage somewhere? Seems costly.

Awesome news! Where is it being filmed though?

Should have been filmed on stage at the Palace Theatre with the original Broadway production set and cast.

Knowing NICKELODEON, it’ll most likely be filmed on one of their soundstages in Orlando without an audience.

From the Playbill article: "Nickelodeon will present a TV adaptation of the musical, performed with a live theatre audience."

"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."

Also, Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando has been closed for years now. The building is now home to The Blue Man Group.

It is MUCH more cost-effective to film it outside of a Broadway theatre –– whether that's on a soundstage with makeshift seating like JCS Live or in a big non-union proscenium theatre. Glenn Weiss (who directs/produces the Tonys, Oscars, and did some of the live musicals) is doing the camera direction.

As others said, I assume they will cut 30-40 minutes so it can run 2 hours with commercials, whether that's subplots or song verses/dance sequences. The Broadway production clocked in at 2:30 including intermish.

Since the final tour stop is in Tampa, just pull a Newsies and film it using some of the tour/OBC ensemble on the touring set.

My thoughts as well. Although, I could see them paying David Zinn to alter the set and build it in a studio. Worth noting the tour set is missing the entire second level, which isn’t a big deal but still something.

I’ve heard from someone working on the costume build that it’s going to be filming in London

The tour is non-Equity, so they can't just have any of the original Broadway cast drop in to the last stop to film it. Since they are planning to film it with the Broadway cast members that are announced in the press release they need to set up an entirely new production company to do it under the appropriate union contracts, most likely SAG/AFTRA in this case.

All of these shows being filmed in London makes me hope that the upcoming HAIRSPRAY revival in the West End will be filmed as well! I wonder if the producers of SPONGEBOB considered having a West End run and decided to do this instead?

I put this in a list of guilty pleasures, along with Legally Blonde and Mean Girls where I do genuinely think there was craft involved. It's nice that it being filmed and won't be forgotten.

YES YES YES FINALLY! So glad people get to see this joy of a show and Slater & Lee's brilliant performances (Will never get over their Tony snubs). I don't know why it's being filmed in London though?
