Saw this tonight and WOW just wow, this might just be the worst show of the decade, and Gary Busey is the best part O.o
thats because every other part of the show is confusing, wooden, indulgent and laughibly misdirected, cherographed and with one of the most hideous set designs I have ever seen.
The short version: Heaven is a corporation and The Boss (God), Jesus, Lucifer and Megan Magdilan (yes) all work together to create humanity, until god banishes Lucifer away for not listening to him, anything past that was way too muddled to figure out.
The director had a drink in her end by intermission.
Also for a show seemingly built around Gary Busey, he only actually sings in two numbers (the playbill has him listed in 8 of them) and is very rarely onstage, honestly anytime he was onstage the energy onstage went up ten fold (and yes there is a buseyism or two in the script)
this is an embarassement of epic proportions, if you are someone that wants to say "I was there" see it now, because it certainly won't be around long after the critics crucify it.
Well, that's a shame. The NY1 segment was intriguing enough to put this on my radar. They never mentioned the corporation part. Has Mike Squillante ever written a musical before?
This show was only on my radar because of this thread and then today on Facebook I see the closing notice from Theater Mania..... then I see a post from my friend NJ about opening night right under the theater-mania post. I was shocked to find out MJ directed this! She’s a very talented up and coming director— I was shocked to find out she is who helmed this...
