Hi all, I'm potentially over-thinking as I tend to do, so I'm hoping you can help me figure this out. My parents are getting me tix to Plaza Suite for Christmas--I've never been to this theater and even thought I've looked at the pictures on the "A View From My Seat" website, I'm wondering just how critical it will be to my enjoyment of the performance to have orchestra seats. I'm a wee bit of a seating snob, but I feel guilty having my parents spend over $300/ticket for me to have orchestra seats. They absolutely don't care and are excited to get me an actual tangible gift but I just can't let them do it. I'm thinking I should have them get me the "dress circle/second floor" tix, and then if the feedback here is that the sound quality will be terrible, I will simply check the second hand markets prior to the show and do a sell/buy closer to the date of the show. For those of you who have been to the Hudson, is it a small enough venue that there are no truly bad seats? Or, am I going to have a hard time hearing what's happening by not sitting in orchestra seats? I've never seen SJP on stage and am beyond excited to see her with Matthew even though I find him a bit annoying. Thanks in advance!

You should have no problem seeing from anywhere in the theater.  I've been in the theater 2 or 3 times since they've opened, and not had any problems hearing either.  My vote is for mezzanine.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I sat in the balcony row A both times I went to that theater and the view was excellent. The theater is small and I think there are no truly bad seats. But, if your parents are paying, go for a premium seat. The front mezzanine view should be fabulous too, if you want to save your parent's money.

Thank you so much for the replies! My sister just texted me to tell me the tickets were purchased last night but she won’t tell me where the seats are. I hope they didn’t pay for premium seats bc the guilt factor will weigh on me. For now I will just be happy and relieved that I’m going!!

Agreed. I sat farther back R balcony Row E for Burn This and still had a full unobstructed view and could hear fine (at least for a play, can't speak to musicals). But being that high up, the balcony views were a little more "birds eye view" looking down at the stage than I wanted but it was the most inexpensive pricing tier so I can't really complain too much.

If I had a choice, cost not being a big factor, I'd choose front mezz/dress circle over mid/rear Orch.

Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like your parents most likely purchased premium orchestra seats, and most likely with your sister’s help. I would say don’t worry about it or feel guilty. That is silly and it undermines and takes away from the gift your parents have given you. Just enjoy it like your parents want you to.

So happy for you! I just returned from 8 nights in NYC and hope I can find the finances to return and see this plus many other opening shows next year. I adore SJP. No matter where the seats are located, accept the gift as intended. They would not want you to feel guilty. As someone who considers himself a pretty independent person, I understand the impulse to not take advantage of your parents’ generosity, but they wouldn’t have done it if they hadn’t wanted to. I will say I sat front row of the left dress circle and the view was great even if the leg room decidedly was not. Regardless, enjoy and don’t feel guilty. My dad passed away almost 7 years ago and my mom has dementia. Enjoy the ability to share gifts between each other while you can.
