magictodo123, that is not the case at every theater. I have attended off Broadway shows where all the ushers stayed.

Just give the world Love.

Magic to do, sorry. I misread and therefor got confused over your initial post. I was asking for clarification as a result and it took a different tone than I intended. For that I sincerely apologize.

Millie, I have stated in more than once in various threads my view on the pouches, and my understanding of how they work. So once again don’t put words in my mouth. As someone who works Broadway FOH, I can tell you that the general mindset Is along the lines of it sucks and is a mild annoyance but part of the gig.

And as for Yonder pouches being the future, give me a break. I should say, in the interest of full disclosure, I’m personally on the fence. However, say that Shubert and Nederlander (using them since they both recently had shows that used them) want to use them the question of enforcement,

when it comes to making sure people don’t unlock them during the show etc, the question is who will enforce it. Any of the theatre companies can’t just wave a magic wand and say this is how it is take it or leave it. There are union negotiations that come into play, money involved for the pouches and the hiring of staff to take care of it the same way the hearing assistants headsets are done etc.

At the end of the day, it’s a business. They want an evening at the theatre to be treated as an even/special occasion etc. they have a mission statement and for obvious reasons want their ushers to carry it out while working. Youndr pouches would be counterintuitive to what they are trying to accomplish. It is for that reason that when the Lunt has all those concerts or with Freestyle Love Supreme, used them but the production footed the bill, not Nederlander or Shubert.

The production staff is allowed to request things happening at their shows within reason. For example, Jimmy Buffet wanted to have the ushers at the Marquis to be of a certain age to match the age demographic that would be attending his show. Nederlander quickly him a hard no ASAP. It was unreasonable because the ushers are Nederlander employees and they hates the idea not to mention that there’s a union too that would not allow this.

A reasonable request would be Scott Rudin not wanting people to come in late and have a strict policy of not allowing late comers to enter after the show starts.

Thats okay! I’m sorry if I overreacted. 😔

I’m firmly against pouches being used in the theatre. We’d have people getting up in the middle of a show to go to the “cell phone zones” in the lobby. And in this increasingly violent country, locking up phones is not a good idea in case of an emergency, god forbid.

People need to start acting like respectful adults.

I agree but the problem is the world isn't full of respectful adults so actions need to be taken. God seeing Judy this past weekend was hell, honestly. I know its a movie theater and not live theatre but same rules still apply. I will never understand why if someone is "bored" that justifies them texting on their phone or even PLAYING GAMES ON THEIR APPS. Just rude, and its almost never millennials or gen z from what I see. People are just full of themselves honestly and don't have much respect for others. Sadly its a common theme in society especially lately

Agreed. I say kick them out immediately.

If Scott Rudin can get people to stop arriving late with his strict policies, we need to do the same for people who use cell phones.
