Thanks for the article, was just looking for some ideas. Google isn’t always the best answer for things. If you google broadway tickets Broadway.com comes up first. Case and point.
Earlier this year, my roommate decided he wanted to move to LA, so I decided to take over our lease on my own and look for someone to fill his room. I used Roomi and found it to be a safe, trustworthy resource. I had to spend some time sorting through the profiles and responses to my listing to identify the people I would really feel comfortable with, but I definitely found some worthwhile candidates through their app/website.
At the last minute my roommate decided to stay in NYC and I let him stay in the apartment so I can't speak to the long term success of a roommate pairing from Roomi, but I can say that it's at least a safe, legit option for looking for someone.
When my sister and I were looking for a roommate, we listed our room on SpareRoom and went to one of their Speed Roommating events. We didn't meet anyone good at Speed Roommating, but that was more because people there didn't want long-term leases or wanted to be in a different neighborhood than our apartment. A lot of great potential roommates found our listing on SpareRoom and came to look at the apartment, but we wound up going with a friend whose lease happened to be ending just when we'd need someone. I'm going to be looking for two roommates when our lease expires next year, and likely will go through SpareRoom again.
