I'd prefer people post what they feel whether I agree with them or not.

If you dislike most of what you see than why do you keep going to the theatre?? Very odd to say the least

I apologize for derailing this thread any further. After Eight mentions enjoying some productions. Why doesn’t he extol the virtues of those. He seems to post what he feels only when it’s negative. It gives the appearance that he just wants to attack productions that have received praise elsewhere. Like The Sound Inside.

After Eight has not seen any of these shows. I've noticed that he/she usually posts a bit after reviews come out or board reviews are posted-- always waiting to see what the consensus is so he/she can then be That Contrarian. Its almost hilarious. He/She does this to get your goats and I cant believe it continues to work. Ignore ignore ignore, or not at your own peril.

You're wrong. I've seen all of them.

Actually, I now prefer waiting until a thread is well established to post my thoughts so that the thread topic is not derailed —- as has happened again  here —- by shifting the focus upon me.

But I do agree that if you don't like my opinions, then by all means ignore me.

In fact, I wish more people would!

In their defense, all AdterEight did was post their opinion on the show in the thread about the show. No referencing anyone else's posts. No personal attacks.

Anyhow, I have a question, for those who have seen the play. What did you take the title to mean? Like the rest of the questions, I was hoping it would be elucidated just a bit further than it was. Going to post a few potential interpretations in a spoiler box, and would appreciate anyone who has other ideas to do the same.

I thought it could mean any combination of:

  • Her cancer
  • Her creative energy
  • His violent impulses (either as an independent person or a figment of her imagination)
  • Her violent impulses — potentially even so far as a suggestion that she killed Christopher

Any thoughts?

After Eight, you are more than allowed to share your opinion. Even if you hate every show you see. My comment was more to the curiosity of why you continue to go when it does not seem you enjoy, frankly, anything. No judgement on my end, more just curiosity. Sorry if it came across any differently.

After Eight said: "“What were the last 4 - 5 new shows that you actually liked?”

Caroline's Kitchen is the most recent play that readily comesto mind.

But I do remember loving Forty Carats, The Goodbye People, The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wild, and Sheep on the Runway a while back. And of course, many before then.
"

Believe it or not, I saw every All but Sheep, loved Mildred Wild, entertained by 40 Carats, which was totally trivial,  actually enjoyed parts of Goodbye quite a lot, especially the ending, although I did think it got boring quite a bit.

but you didn’t answer my question: what new work have you seen in the past few years that you really liked?  If the answer is semi-nil, why do you go?

I did answer your question: Caroline's Kitchen.

I actually asked for 4 or 5 shows...can I infer that the only new show in the past few years, in which case I have to ask why you spend good money to be in misery.  Even John Simon liked a decent percent of the shows he saw.

After Eight, didn't you post that you kinda liked Be More Chill?

Whether or not you like something generally comes AFTER you see a show; hence why many people may see productions they end up not liking.

Sure, you can rule out some in advance based on subject matter, cast, et al, but that doesn't mean you aren't still going to keep trying to find something you like.

And people who love theatre are going to try and see a lot of theatre, even if it ends up disappointing them at some point.

No. But I did find Clueless cute and fairly entertaining.

But the question was not what I liked or kinda liked but what I really liked. Really is a really high bar.

    Saw this tonight!

First, I had been to studio 54 twice before but never in the rear mezz. You people ain’t lying about the misery that is the legroom up there. Luckily the row in front of me was completely empty so I could spread out. And the production itself still filled the space well I thought.

As for the play, wowza. I don’t think my reaction is as strongly positive as some of the folks on this thread, but it is still the type of play I go to the theater to see. It suggests so many possibilities for interpretation, just like the fiction that dominates discussion in the play. I’m going to have to do some more thinking, and you better believe I’ll be reading this play as soon as it’s published. I think there were some subtleties (words, gestures?) I missed being far away, so I can’t wait to read it. I wish it had been 10 minutes longer or cleared things up a bit more, but I guess the point is to shock us and make us think.

Kudos to all involved. MLP is a master. It’s one of those rare times where I was so drawn in to the character but also took a step back and realized the talent she was displaying with what is in most places a straight soliloquy. Hochman makes a stunning debut. Cromer is a masterful ship captain, and I also want to shoutout the lighting and projection design! Phenomenal! Seeing Tina last night and this tonight, I feel like I got a lesson in how/not to do projections onstage!
