BCEFA FLEA 2019 COLLECTORS UNITE |
If you happened to find a pre-Broadway playbill (Atlantic Theatre) for The Band's Visit, I've been on the lookout for one for quite a while! Also pretty much anything Come From Away related, especially rare items that they don't sell at the theatre/online.
northlandfan, you are a very kind soul. I live in Mexico so I always enjoy Flea vicariously through people's posts. I can't think of something specific I want off the top of my head (or, well, I want everything) but if your list isn't full of requests, I'll definitely message you.
Ooooh I'd very likely be interested in the Tony Voters book! Do you by any chance remember what the price was?

I'm actually very excited about this years line-up, was there anyone specific you were hoping would be there?

Same. And lately it’s been more clear how they manipulate the lineup in order to get people coming multiple times. I don’t think Andre De Shields being separated from the rest of the Hadestown cast is coincidental.
I just love rummaging for old Playbills, running into various stars (I’ve had some great encounters over the years), and then getting a ton of cheap stuff at the end of the night when it’s basically a fire sale (though that’s been less and less each year)
My biggest find was the hello Dolly flipbook (the Bette Midler eating scene) that they had a whole box of that were going at a dollar at the end of the day. I couldn’t believe my eyes so I bought 12 of them. Should’ve bought the whole box !!

I noticed that with DeShields too. To the poster who asked me who I would be interested in-maybe a few legends thrown in the mix to add some excitement. I'd definitely pay top dollar to meet a legend.
If anyone is planning on being at the flea market this year please message me here or privately as perhaps we can meet and increase our chances of finding specific collectibles at the various tables. The crowds can be crazy busy at times.I would be happy to look for items you’re interested in while I am looking for my own that day and vice versa! Thank God for teamwork and cell phones!

Cool! Looking forward to going for the first time. Lucky it's on at the same time I'm visiting New York. I've got a 3pm Hadestown that afternoon, so I will just go earlier to the flea market. :)

It seems like a pretty good lineup. Sure, most of these people are on stage regularly and you could probably see them at the stage door but there are plenty of fan favorites. I imagine they'll raise a lot of money. I'm sure the way people are split up also helps manage traffic.
Anyone remember which tables always sell the T-shirts and plastic cups? I know I'll definitely be getting something so I want to hit them last so I'm not carrying them around all day while browsing elsewhere.

I think you can find plastic cups anywhere, but the one that really seemed to have the most was a table on the side where the Booth is. Somewhere around there, if I'm remembering correctly from last year.
A friend asked me an interesting question- does anyone know if they take checks for payment? I know they do during collections at theatres, but I can't say with any certainty they do at the flea. Anyone know?
- Cast Signed Windowcards from The Prom and Head Over Heels
- T-Shirts (XXL) for The Prom and Head Over Heels
- Cast Signed Playbill and/or poster from The Waverly Gallery

How's about if they dig up the mummified corpses of Ethel Merman and Mary Martin? Would that satisfy you?
Seriously --- what living Broadway "legends" are there??

I remember one year had Chita Rivera. But yeah, I assume the autograph tables and photo opportunity are mostly geared towards younger fans. While I'm sure some of them also love the "legends" it makes so much more sense to get the heartthrobs and actors from recent and current shows that they're excited about.

Although there some great "current stars", in years past there have been lots of better known stars, Sutton Foster, Andrew Rannells, Judith Light, Patti Lupone, Jonathan Groff, Debra Monk, Patrick Wilson, Harvey Firestein, David Hyde Pierce, Andrea McCardle etc. I wish there was a "premium" table, where they brought in a big Broadway name and you could just see them and pay premium price.
Shout out to big stars like Bebe Neuwirth and Tyne Daly who support this even year after year!

Sadly, Bebe's picture is no longer listed on the lineup. There have been a few more that have dropped out, but hers is the one I noticed.

I still see Bebe in the 12:00-12:50 slot.
