Slave Play Preview Thread |
<<edited by BWW staff>>
Go start a thread with yourself so the rest of us can have a reasonable discussion about this show.
Can we please talk about the actual show. It’s the THIRD preview and we only have two responses from the actual show.
Do not engage with Joe, on this thread or any other.
Has anyone who's been to the invited dress, or the first few previews got any idea how the $39 tickets are?

It's a discussion thread. I'm participating. Don't like? Don't read.
Curious how people identify trolling as disliking something they like. If posts were restricted to people who've seen a given show, the forum would not be open to everyone across the country. Funny that people are making this about me and then claiming I'm the one derailing the conversation.
I've reported every attack on me to the moderators. I think you are more in violation of policy around here than I am.
The point is you criticize a show to death that you have never even seen, you are agesit and make fun of millennial and younger audiences who see shows, saying how they don't understand good theatre and this show must be bad because it has a younger audience. Its not about disagreement, you provide zero input to the conversation when you constantly attack a show you haven't even seen. So yes, its troll behavior. Why bother continuing and commenting on a show you hate so much that you haven't even bothered to see, nor respect the audience who's seeing it? It comes off hateful and not as "participating".

Why bother continuing and commenting about a contributor you hate so much and haven't even bothered to understand, nor show any respect for his contribution to the board?
I am indeed participating. I'm discussing what makes me think the show is awful. I find your snowflake attitude and hissyfits because someone isn't all smiles and rainbows about a show childish and irrelevant. "Ageist." What a wimpy attack.
And look--YOU derailed the conversation. I was talking about Slave Play. You insist on talking about me. And you've taken up a whole page making the tread about ME rather than about THE SHOW.
Moving on, not sure why I engaged and not worth anyones time. Agreed, focus on Slave Play!!!! I went for a $39 seat in November. I got a seat on Wednesday, but just a heads up for anyone who hasn't gotten that $39 ticket yet, there weren't many available for a weekday performance. Buy while you can!! Tickets tend to sell more after opening, assuming strong reviews. Interested to see this play's trajectory.

Lmao, you say that "ageist," a criticism with substance and clear roots in your inane posts, is wimpy, in the same breath as calling people "snowflakes" for calling you out on tried-and-true troll behavior.
Is there now any info about the box office rush hour on the day off?
Online sales sites indicate many free seats for tomorrow, e.g., but was wondering if anyone tried to rush this at the theater itself yet and has a data point on the length of the lines.
Thanks all.

Someone posted a page or so back they they sold them a rush ticket in the evening no problem, so you should be fine. I imagine it's $40 like all of the other Golden plays of late.
I believe its in person rush. I think its busy when it opens but a poster on here was able to grab a ticket right before curtain so you may be in luck if you arrive later.
<<edited by BWW staff>> We finally got a real conversation going about the show and you are back causing problems.
I know, sorry, its hard not to lol, but I am done. let him continually just post himself. As someone did mention though, lots of seats available this weekend. I did purchase my ticket but I have been hyped about this show for quite some time. During previews, has anyone ever approached the playwright before? I would love to speak to Mr O'Harris, but unsure of how inappropriate it is during previews when they're working. Obviously, I can judge a social situation or not and whether its appropriate to approach him in that sense, but I'm curious how many people run into the playwright or directors at shows and interact with them about the piece. He seems very friendly from all Ive read about him!
Ok, folks. I think that this particular debate has been exhausted, and is simply regurgitating the same talking points. Let's try to get the conversation back on the show itself. If you would like to talk about things other than the show's performances, you are welcome to start a new thread, but any other comments about that in here will be considered off-topic and deleted.
Thanks so much.

Hi Mike,
he is pretty active on Twitter (https://twitter.com/jeremyoharris) and seems approachable, often cheeky. My impression is that he spends a lot of time interacting with people and the audience about his work. To me, he comes across as someone who's very aware of his platform and willing to put it to good use.
As a German, I'm really surprised how much of an air of scandal this is able to produce. I get that it's something new for big budget Broadaway, that it's controversial and uncomfortable for a lot of people (hell, when I saw it, I negotiated some of their actions with the characters in my dream ) But it didn't come across for me as something overly scandalous just for its own sake to cause a stir. (See for example how careful nudity is being used and that there was no full frontal, I think, until act 3 and even then it's not the kind of "LOOK AT US! HOW EDGY!" nudity that I'm used to from German theater.)
I also found this interview very insightful but I would only recommend to read it if you've seen the play and know about its full arc.

Is asking if O’Harris is at the previews off topic? I just don’t feel a thread needs to be devoted to that, but just curious. I feel asking questions about the performances should belong in here too

Thanks for your feedback re: rush."
This is incredibly helpful, thank you!!
I realized too that the $39 tickets were selling quickly, but the only ones left were from the far left or right of the mezz. I'm hoping to rush on a sunday mat.

I got one for center mezz in November. Maybe try and book further out if you can.

Hi Mike, I think asking about approaching someone at previews is perfectly acceptable. We were referencing the bickering about the show that had nothing to do with the show or the previews themselves. As long as there is a substantive purpose for the conversation to be in the preview thread, I think you should be fine!
