I went through the exact same thought process as you before I realized the article about David Josefsburg joining Beetlejuice was right above the Rob McClure announcement

I agree 100%. How about a non-traditional casting choice? Do you think it crossed their minds at all?
Rob McClure is incredibly talented and I will not deny that HOWEVER your responses made me curious.
IF you could dream cast this production, who would you like to see in the roles??

yeah! I got the notification on my phone and all I could think about was posting it on here ASAP and didn't even realize there was another article about David joining the cast.

Rob McClure will probably be fine, but a POC lead could be interesting, an I feel like there’s no reason Daniel HAS to be white. On the subject of THAT debate, I think that casting trans actors in the supporting roles is a better way of providing support to that community and highlighting the differences between Daniel’s cross dressing and actual trans experiences...

People who saw him in the reading said he was BRILLIANT and really made the role his own. They didn't feel he was living in the shadow of Robin Williams. FWIW...
Great opportunity for him, and such a better role than Maitland.
I'm just very curious as to how they're going to do certain scenes like the makeover scene...when the social worker comes to visit his apartment and the whole cake fiasco....so many things that I know they can't include but would make for excellent comedy if executed the right way.

Super happy for Mr. McClure. His performance in Chaplin was excellent, here's to another great performance!

That sounds good.
I know Mrs Doubtfire hasn’t yet confirmed it is opening this season, but the Tony Awards obsession with guys in drag means that McClure will be a big player in the Tonys when the musical finally arrives in New York. I doubt McClure will gain the Tony as easily as Santino did (Given that both men lost to Billy Porter in 2013, it’s not surprising that they have decided to go down the cross-dressing route) but it will be fascinating to see how it plays out...

Why not? Given that he led the Something Rotten, I can see the creatives writing with him in mind. My hesitation is that even though he's just a few years younger than Robin Williams was when he was in the movie, he reads younger than Williams did. But maybe this will take a few years to transfer (if it transfers at all). I'm also curious about how they'll work out the makeup. It's one thing to apply a full face application like that for a day of shooting on a film set and another to do it in the middle of a show. How will they compromise?

Because many people, like it or not, want to feel the nostalgia of the film and the characters that they loved watching play out as they did in the film. That appears to be part of the reason Tootsie hasn’t received the response it could and should have: because of the revised theatrical context, and Lilli, who is a fabulous performer, just hasn’t impressed people. Like I said, people like what is familiar.
I, for one, can't wait for the day musicals written by men about the humorous exploits of men dressing up as women come to an end.

Why? This is something that has been done in the world of comedy for years. But, if it offends you so, then I highly suggest you stay away from watching Monty Python's Flying Circus or some of the Bugs Bunny cartoons that are out there.
I second the “.....” about his casting. Vocally he’s not very exciting and his acting just fine. Kind of how I feel about Santino but... whatever

Yep, emphasis on “done.” And if I recall correctly, time marches forward, and good comedy matches with it :)
