Do I want other people to have the opportunity to see a show I don't like? No, and the whole guilt trip about putting people out of work is just so lame.

Wow, I apologize for engaging with you, anyone who says something like that clearly doesn't support themselves financially nor has a family to provide for. I would say you are ignorant, but insulting children isn't really my thing. The ability for you to have complex thoughts and adult discussions only comes when you are ACTUALLY an adult. So, I'm sorry, kiddo. Have a great school year and stay off drugs! <3

Oh, you  are simply  missing so much of CT's intent here. SO much.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Boy, I forgot how much I love the "ignore" feature. It's like the thread is wiped clean. All the Moulin Rouge! ones will be a lot more palatable, too.

Curious to see how Frozen does in London as it's going into one of the biggest and most prestigious theatres and Disney musicals (aside The Lion King) historically never do as well in London as on Broadway

Just yes. Not sure how putting people out of jobs could be lame in any way.

Truly mind blowing and incredibly cruel. If a person doesn't love theater, and supporting people in their community, this website clearly is not for them.

We will see how it goes through the doldrums of autumn. I didn’t love it or hate it, but saying “it must go” is petty. Unless you are are producer of the show or a member of Nederlander looking for another show to go in, it shall remain. It’s like everyone being an armchair meteorologist during hurricane season."

I could be wrong, but I don't think the majority of people who have a problem with this show are on these boards. I think there are comments on the boards about low grosses, but the main complaints are coming from elsewhere (social media, Twitter, etc). I know I got slammed for saying something about the show on Twitter. But that's not these boards and I'm well aware of that.

I said that the guilt trip was lame. When shows close, people lose their jobs. It's not a great thing, but it's a fact of life. However, using the employment of a cast and crew as a reason why a mediocre show should remain open is absurd.

Listen, I've been a member of this board for a while, and usually try to be helpful in my posts. I've helped countless people get tickets to shows and I'm constantly providing discount codes to continue helping. I try to provide meaningful information that people can actually use. I hate confrontation, but I hate stupidity even more. Maybe it's time for me to just start lurking again, and I'll keep all that information to myself, and y'all can treat yourselves to the inane ramblings and fight-starting of the less intelligent.

Well, it makes as much sense as saying a show should stay open (despite worrying signs) because you like it.

People here really need to stop being so personally and emotionally invested in the box office figures of shows they like or dislike. Discussion and analysis is one thing, but folks here act like they've got actual skin in the game.

Opinions on either side don't really determine whether a show closes or stays open...

This. This. THIS. Either way, liked or loved, why do people honestly care? I loved Tootsie but it doesn't really effect me whether its box office is good or not. The only reason I care is so I hope it tours one day to see it again. But for people to go one way or the other, kinda is pathetic. Seriously, you liked the show, doesn't mean it should open. Lots of good shows don't last long. If you didn't like it, why are you taking up so much of your time and thought into bashing the show? On both sides its ridiculous.

I enjoy looking at grosses objectively. If you're looking at them this way, Tootsie is on a downwards trend, albeit having a good holiday week last week. Im not sure how there is really any other way to look at or discuss these things. It boggles my mind every week the arguments that happen in here. None of us here determine a shows longevity.

What a pathetic person you are. Seriously. Please leave. Broadway doesn't need your money or a fandom.
"

Clearly, you didn't get the point I was trying to make. I couldn't care less about whether or notTootsie staysopen. I was merely responding to the annoying posts by its cheerleaders, and showing that the opposite opinion is just as valid and reasonable.I'm assuming the intelligent people got what I was trying to say. If you didn't, that's OK, but, dude, your post and calling me "pathetic" is damn near close to bullying, for no good reason.
"

As someone who has read your posts for two years, I knew exactly the point you were trying to make. I was curious to see how long it would take for others to get it also.
"

Thank you. Unfortunately, some people on here will never get it, and I think it's pretty clear who those people are. Their posts reek of ignorance, small-mindedness, and misguided bravado, and I've put them on "ignore." I'm almost 50 years old, and I don't need to subject myself to that kind of dullardry.

I'm interested in this as well. They already used the Disney in the West End pop-up to promote the project, so it seems like the publicity campaign is starting pretty early. Michael Grandage has far more name recongition in the West End, but I don't think it will really affect casual audiences - the Frozen brand is still the primary USP. However, Grandage's overly serious approach to Frozen is one of the key reasons for its underwhelming reception on Broadway, and he will need to bring a lighter touch when Frozen reaches Drury Lane.

It's worth noting that Drury Lane also hosted Shrek (another revisionist animated fairy tale beloved by millenials), and Frozen has already outlasted it by some margin. Shrek made a few alterations for the West End, ensuring that it managed to last for longer at Drury Lane. If Frozen wants to succeed there, then the team will need to make some edits, probably by going for more colourful staging and altering the book a little...

Greg Evans' take on ''Tootsie's'' grosses at Deadline.com:

Inexplicably struggling was the terrifically funny Tootsie, taking in $918,350, an impressive number at first glance but only 56% of its potential at the Marquis. Even with a modest-for-musicals average ticket price of $90, Tootsie hovered at Beetlejuice levels despite Tootsie‘s slightly larger theater size and better reviews. Beetlejuice grossed $1,001,783, filling 92% of seats at the Winter Garden.

Odd that he should say "inexplicably" just because he thought it was funny. The grosses are totally in line with the general public's reaction to the show. Some people like it, some people don't, but, in the end, I think the majority of people aren't giving it a second thought, and that doesn't translate to repeat business or increased sales due to positive word-of-mouth. It just hasn't struck a chord with people, and, by this point, it won't.
