Lana Del Ray is playing at Jones Beach the day before Madonna in Brooklyn and I am staying in midtown. How hard is it to get to jones Beach from midtown? Is it worth it to try to see Lana Del Rey or would it be a hassle. Thanks.

I had the same question myself. I am a fan of The Who and they are playing there. Yet, I am from the area but don't drive.

I did a google maps search, starting from Penn Station (I just picked a midtown landmark since I don't know where in Midtown you are.) If you have access to rent a car, or zip car or something to that effect, it's about an hour drive from there. However, if you have to take public transportation you have to take the Long Island Railroad and then when you get off take a shuttle bus to and from the theatre. Personally, I love seeing shows at Jones Beach. Annoying thing for me is that Long Island is hard to get around without a car. So, that said, I'ld love to know what you end up doing.

I've done this several times but not for a coupl years now but above sounds spot on. The beach and concert venue are in walking distance of each other in case you want to arrive early and check out the beach for a bit.

Check the LIRR website, should have a whole section on getting to Jones Beach from NYC. From Penn Station your destination is Freeport. I think there's a transfer in there. Then you have to take the bus, which you use a regular Metrocard for. The site will tell you up until when they run the buses, for summer concerts they have extended hours. You can also pay like ~$10 pp to jump into a rideshare van with others (there's usually a ton of them just milling about outside after a concert), which is sometimes easier than trying to get on the crowded buses.

What I couldn’t figure out is if it’s a free shuttle from the Freeport station to the venue or if you have to pay. However, I can honestly see it going ether way. In other words free or having to pay.
