SNL 45! |
I am not crazy about the musical guests either. They have always had popular artists on but I liked it when they had artists that were sometimes under the radar that they would give exposure to. I really don't need to see Kanye or Swift again. So many other good artists out there. It is one of the things I like about Jimmy Kimmel's show. I have found some good new music on his show. JMO
Also bummed to read Leslie Jones will NOT be coming back this season. She was one reason I kept tuning in the past few seasons. I only hope she's on a huge upswing in her movie and other-TV career that precluded her returning to SNL. The lady may not have shown a wildly varied repertoire at SNL but man, did she make me laugh.

The town hall, Dad, and Apples were the highlights for me. Billie Eillish was great as well, how the heck did she go Upside down a bunch? "
The set rotated throughout the performance and with camera tricks it gave the illusion she was performing on the walls and ceiling. I’m a huge fan of Eilish have have been following her for a few years; it’s great to see her blow up this year.... but it was expected.

I was hoping!
My favorite sketch of the night was the apple picking sketch at the very end. Weirdly specific with great idiosyncratic observations, my favorite kind of sketch. The episode was fine otherwise; loved Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris.
Pretty excited for Phoebe Waller-Bridge this weekend. I think she has the makings of a terrific SNL host with her acting and writing styles.
Also, in bigger and better news, Stevie Wonder has just volunteered to be the Music Guest for the Christmas episode this season with Eddie Murphy. Where do I begin the petition to guarantee this happens??!!

I thought Waller-Bridges opener was killer! Show is good so far. Posting here while the musical guest is on. Just not a fan.
I really want to see more of Bowen Yang.

Is it just me or was "War Letters" a re-hashed version of something either SNL or another sketch comedy show had already done? I swear I have seen this before, basically the same exact setup.
The Black/White News segment was definitely highlight of the night.

The "War of Words" was done last season with Claire Foy. Fun sketch honestly that they could keep running with. After Phoebe's I'm not sure if it needs another prime slot before update, but I'm not against seeing that one again next season.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSL1SBT7-W8
Written by Mikey Day, and was also done on the brief "Maya and Marty" show which Mikey also wrote for, so its 100% his piece.

Ding ding ding. Thank you. I thought for a second they just went ahead and stole a sketch from some little-known source but this obviously makes much more sense lol.
Mike Barrett said: "Not really familiar with Harbour’s work so just excited for a new snl tonight. I’d imagine Kate will be playing Rudy..."
I assume you don't watch STRANGER THINGS. He plays the sheriff.
Another good show tonight.
