I'm surprised no one has  brought this up for discussion yet.   Very sad moment for all of them.  Just laughing away at a little boy taking ballet.  Sham on ABC, Disney, the hosts of GMA AND their studio audience.  Her apology wasn't even on air - just a pathetic tweet.

Her apology was pathetic-- tweet or not.

Lara Spencer is an untalented, self-satisfied, shrill sh*t head. There. I said it. I have often thought so. She isn't worth anyone's time.

Ballet and dance builds strength and resilience, and of course, ANY creative outlet is important and must be encouraged in children. Someone as vapid as Ms. Spencer wouldn't know that. Or care to know it.

Foot and mouth disease.

A stupid, insensitive remark belonging in the dark ages; actually belonging nowhere.

and the 3,000 comments that were posted to that Instagram non-apology demanding more from her are now mysteriously gone.

Damn, ABC. Someone on the PR team needs to go.

Damn, that just reads cruel. Why can’t a little boy like ballet? It takes me back to when I was a little boy and wasn’t supposed to like many things which I did.

She wasn't the only one who laughed. Audience members laughed and you could also hear George laughing.

Yes, I tried to allude to that in my post.

What can you expect from her and from that show? The once entertaining and enlightening ABC and NBC morning shows have become unwatchable, but " Good Morning, America" is particularly lowbrow and Lara Spencer has always been insufferable.

Her apology is a joke. She should have just apologized for the offense instead of adding on how she “fully believes” everyone should be free to pursue their passions. If she honestly believed that then her knee-jerk reaction in the moment wouldn’t have been laughter. That’s how she truly feels. That was her real self in that moment.

I will focus on the positive here.....

Prince George's grandma, Princess Diana, studied ballet and was a champion of the English National Ballet.  It comes as no surprise to me, then, that George and his sister, Princess Charlotte, have "taken up" ballet.  Good for those kids, and good for the Royal Family!   They are setting an excellent example for little girls AND boys everywhere.  Diana would have been proud.

Why would you be surprised that no one else created a thread on this? Something that has nothing to do with Broadway, on a Broadway board?  The off topic section is where this actually belongs.

Saying that, the show is garbage, she should be fired, and boys are lovely ballet dancers.

When I was directing high school musicals, my best male dancers always came from the football team. The guys had agility and knew how to listen. Oh, some of them balked when they were told they'd be wearing tights in CINDERELLA. Then during rehearsals, when the guys slipped into those tights, the whole situation changed because every muscle in those well-exercised legs was there to appreciate. The ballroom scene was one of the show's highlights. The girls were upset that they were no longer the focus of attention and there were even more football players auditioning for the next year's musical.

There were never any smirks that I knew of.

Wow.  In most Broadway musicals I have attended, there is movement, gestured poses, disciplined breathing after a choreographed sequence, and poise.

This is getting wide media coverage so I expect ABC will be taking some action towards Ms. Spencer. ABC doesn’t take these whoopsies lightly.

A morning show, Lara, and Prince George taking children's ballet have nothing to do with Broadway. As in the theater district in New York City. This should be discussed, just elsewhere. Just my opinion.

Not to mention the number of BROADWAY people that have responded to this.

The large majority of responses being used in the media is coming from the Broadway community: Jerry Mitchell, Tony Yazbeck and others so yes, as ballet IS part of Broadway as well, this topic is applicable to all aspects of dance, which use elements of ballet.

I don't know anything about this woman because I haven't watched network TV in years, but is she kind of known to be somewhat of a dingbat?   I can't imagine anyone making it as a network reporter, in New York City, no less, and finding humor in a boy who takes ballet.  Sounds like this lady is a couple of enchiladas short of a combo plate.  I don't get how someone in her position, agains, in NYC, can be so out of touch with the reality around her.  Very odd that she made it to where she is.

As to why this thread is on a Broadway board? Well....Billy Elliott? Every ballet/dream sequence from any number of Rodgers and Hammerstein shows over the decades?  Not to mention that many (most?  all?) male Broadway dancers have probably had at least some ballet in their past?  It very much works on this board.

Thete's a dance-in being planned for outside the GMA studio next week. If I wasn't still confined to a wheelchair, I'd participate.
Will pass along more info when I receive it.

I've never understood why Lara Spencer was promoted to "Co-Anchor" of GMA. She's not a journalist by any means and has always come across as extremely polarizing. She's one of the reasons I don't watch that show. Her comments were inappropriate and disgusting and have no place on a network like ABC. And shame on George and Amy for laughing as well.

It's unfortunate timing for Disney as this weekend is their D23 Expo which is held every other year. Basically a Disney version of ComicCon with huge announcements and such so Bob Iger and all the senior executives are there. I have no doubt action will be taken against Lara but I don't expect any substantial updates before Monday. Hopefully the next update we get is news of her firing.

Did she say more than "we'll see how long that lasts"? I could only find a short clip. I agree, it's not great but she seemed to mean it in the context of him having an over the top curriculum for a child.

If she was trying to police his behavior and enforce gender norms, then, boo. But I'm not sure it needed so many people to respond. How many people care what Lara Spencer thinks? Who even is she?
