Have your favorite productions been shows you've seen on Broadway? Or have you found gems off-Broadway or on the West End? I just hate when people think there isn't good theater to be found in places other than Broadway-it's just ONE option!

I really loved The Mousetrap when I saw it on the West End. It kept me in suspense and I truly didn't know "whodunit" until the end! So well done. I'd see it in a heart beat if it came anywhere near New York.

The Public Theater has produced very interesting shows and is also a great place for theater.

I've always been interested in shows at Second Stage (even though I haven't seen one there in months, if not a year).

MCC Theater on 52nd? is also a place where I have seen some amazing works, and I'm seeing a show in a few weeks at New York Theater Workshop that I am VERY interested in.

What are your favorite places to see theater that isn't Broadway?

I saw the play with Indina Menzel off broadway called Skintight and absolutely loved it. Other than that though I’ve only seen broadway and tours (community theater too but ya know)

I looove local theater. I live in Philly so I use to think there was nothing here but man I was wrong. Probably my favorite production hands down was this theater called Theater Horizon's production of The Color Purple. I went into it completely blind too so it was even more fun, as now that is one of my favorite shows of all time. Another good theater is the Walnut Street Theater. So much history there too, that alone is almost worth the price of admission.

A vast majority of the theatre I see is Off-Broadway. For me, the world of non-profit Off-Broadway theatre is really where my heart lies. I usually don't care much for the kinds of things that get produced commercially Off-Broadway, but the non-profit companies are really the lifeblood of NYC theatre in my personal opinion.

And I would say the equivalent is even more true of London theatre! In London, I think commercial West End theatre is pretty spotty, and I actually don't like it as much as Broadway theatre in NYC. But the non-profit theatres in London are phenomenal. They are REALLY the lifeblood of London theatre - even more than Off-Broadway is for NY. IMO, anyone who goes to London to see theatre, and only sees commercial productions on the West End is really missing out on what London theatre has to offer.
