Received an email for this option today, costs $69:

RESERVED SEAT IN VIP ROOM

Exclusive pre-show and intermission experience

Each reserved seat includes: Private restrooms, complimentary welcome glass of Chandon sparkling wine and a dedicated server and bar. Admit one. Additional reserved seats can be added in basket during checkout. Please note the VIP Room is located on the Mezzanine level up 20 steps and is not wheelchair accessible.

Anyone here do this upgrade and if so, was it worth it? Or it that time better spent admiring the set design from your mezzanine seat during these times?

$70 for a glass of champagne and no line for the bar? No thanks.

If you think a glass of sparkling wine is worth $69, then sure -- go for it!  Or you could just go to the bar on the corner, have a $10 drink and use their restroom and still be back in time to look at the set again.

This is common practice in the West End. (I wouldn’t pay but know people who happily would.)

I couldn't justify spending the extra money but would love to see a picture of what the room looks like. Also going from the orchestra across the lobby and up to the mezzanine was not an easy feat to use the mens room at intermission the other day.

Boston offered something similar...i was comped for the "experience". It WAS rather nice, but I wouldn't ever pay to do it.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It's across from the entrance to the right side of the mezzanine. Walked by it on the way to my seats, and it looked lovely through the open door. Wouldn't personally spend $70 for it, but it looked nice nonetheless. The Hudson does a similar deal for their Ambassador Lounge, yes? That one's cheaper at $40 but doesn't include the champagne. Haven't had a chance to take a peek at that one.

Def a West End thing. They also preorder drinks at intermission, etc, but everything in the West End is cheaper.

I will say, the bathroom situation at the Al Hirschfeld is AWFUL, made worse due to patrons arriving "hydrated." I wouldn't have had time to get a drink and use the bathroom.

I'd never dream of paying for something like this ($4.66 a minute!), but if you get a prosecco for intermish ($19) and a soda for act 2 ($10), the special room is only $40 on top of that. Chump change compared to what some of these people have already paid.

I'd rather savor 69 McChickens.

Chump change maybe but I’d guess 90% of the people who have already paid an exorbitant amount for their ticket (which is already priced too high if you ask me) don’t want to pay $70 additional to have a private room to sit in for a few minutes before or during the show. And that’s per person... so for a family of 4, let’s say, that’s $280 more. Basically the price of another show ticket, could have brought Grandma!

(Also, it is not $4.66 per minute, technically. you have to incorporate pre-show to that value as well depending on when the house opens for patrons, not just the 15 min you get at intermission. Just to be technical.)

((Also, also: I believe the Hudson package does come with a complimentary glass of something, but correct me if I’m wrong.))

Why do you possibly care what people do with their own money? Let people live.

Sounds great for tourists with extra dollars, enjoy!

Does the cast visit and act all silent and staring, like in the theater itself? I assume not since they’d likely advertise that boldly. That might  make it worth the extra cash.

I mean, I wouldn't say no to it. Trying to navigate the lobby during intermission, especially with that ladies' room line, is a nightmare. I do think the cost is ridiculous though. The lounges in the Lyric and Hudson are only $40 more I think and those were spaces build specifically for that purpose when they were renovated.

People w money would buy this in a heartbeat. Guys will tip a cocktail waitress hundreds of bucks to impress their friends at a bar. This is nothing.

Just as an FYI I’m in Mezzanine seat G1 which affords a quick escape to the men’s restroom. Didn’t have any issues with it when I was there for Kinky Boots back in March, and was one of the very first in line using those facilities.

I’m not sure how soon they let you into the Al Hirschfield Theatre for this show that you’d still be able to enjoy the exclusive pre-show experience (whatever that means), but unless there’s a reason to stick around my seat or hit up the souvenir stand again, it would be interesting to see what’s going on in the VIP Room.

I’ll definitely have to think about this over the weekend (unless all the limited-availability tickets are gone by that time) to see if I think it’s worth it or not. It’s my last show of the day, and my last trip to NYC this year, so it may be an enjoyable way to go out with a bang.

If the bartender no matter what you order says "excellent choice, sir" and the described private restrooms have heated towels, I am in!

You know, I totally forgot about this when I was at the show again last week. Considering some of these audience members, I might've liked a chance to duck away. Looks like it's up to $75 per pair now. Has anyone actually tried this?
