Caissie Levy is a surprising choice. I’m concerned that she will be a bit bland for the role, but I can also imagine her surprising me if she’s well-directed. It occurs to me that she usually plays very brooding roles (Elsa, Fantine, Elphaba, Molly in Ghost, and to a lesser extent, Sheila in Hair). So I’ve never really gotten an opportunity to see her play a role like this.

Levy is really the only thing here that doesn't work for me... it's very odd casting for this role, indeed. And although she's just 2-3 years younger than Veanne Cox was, she reads much younger to me.

I think what’s throwing me off is that Veanne Cox is such a character actress who happens to be able to sing, where Caissie is known for belting her face off. Figured they would go for someone similar this time around but guess not. You’re right that she reads much younger as well   Will be interesting to see how it plays out

Though she does read young compared to Cox (at the time), I don't think she reads too young to be a step-mother to a 12-year-old.  I've never seen her attempt a character such as Rose so I'm willing to go with it.  It's a bit of luxury vocal casting, for sure.  Rose need not sing that well.

The most different thing I've seen Cassie in was in the Patti By The Pool section of First Daughter Suite back in 2015, and even that was more her type than Rose Stopnick. It did convince me of her acting ability though, so I think she can bring something fresh to the role.

I'm excited to see Caissie play something different in a limited run. It's really the first time she gets to play more than the ingenue/heroine, and I'd like to see her play those sides.

Noah is 8 years old according to the script so it wouldn’t be unrealistic to have Rose be even younger than Levy.

Also, fun to see this Ghost the Musical reunion! Sharon Clarke was the original Oda Mae Brown in London.

I'm all for Cassie Levy as Rose...while maybe not as inspiring as Stephanie J Block would have been.. IMO

I am most dreading John Cariani as Stuart. I really hope he checks his normal schtick at the door. Stuart is wonder-bread-boring and dry, not manic and schticky, which is how Cariani always comes across to me.

Also, love Chip Zien and Grandpa S!!!

FWIW, I thought Caissie Levy was great in Murder Ballad, which was belty but wasnt necessarily brooding or morose (that was Rebecca Naomi Jones' job). Good for her for trying to get a gig that asks more of her than her (pretty phenomenal) voice.
