I'm going to be making a weekend trip to NY November 22nd to the 25th.  I'm going with my girlfriend (who has gone with me to NY twice previously), and three of her sisters, who have never been.  We managed to find a great deal at my favorite hotel, The Michelangelo, for two rooms for us (the sisters are sharing a room with two Queen beds, and my girlfriend and I are sharing a King bed room), and I really am looking forward to showing the city to her sisters.  They even are going to be seeing their first Broadway Show on the trip, as my girlfriend has gotten them tickets to see Aladdin. (I won't be joining them, as I saw it years ago, and once was enough for me.)

This mostly will be a trip for the sisters, but my girlfriend is allowing me time to split up from the group and see a few shows on my own.  I currently have tickets for Tina: The Tina Turner Musical on Friday night, and Moulin Rouge, which I am taking my girlfriend to as part of our Date Night on the Saturday we will be there.  I have one slot open on Sunday afternoon, as that is when they will be seeing Aladdin.  I currently am deciding between a few shows, and the possibility of waiting to see if there will be anything to be announced.

Right now, the shows I am mostly considering are Slave Play and The Sound Inside.  Has anyone seen these productions before they came to Broadway, and can offer their thoughts?  I also am considering the recently announced Off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors, mostly for the cast.  It's a production I've seen numerous times before, so it's not exactly a priority for me, despite the cast.

Any information or advice would be appreciated.  Normally, I come to NY for shows and stay a lot longer, but like I said, this trip is mostly about her sisters' first time in the city, so I am going to be spending most of my time with them.  Also am considering waiting to see if there are any more show announcements to be made in the next month or so.

Thanks again, everyone!

If you choose Little Shop - you'd better act fast: very few tix left.

From your choices: I've heard incredibly intriguing things about Slave Play, so that gets my vote.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Saw Hadestown on my last trip in May.  Loved it.

Forgot about Jagged Little Pill.  The main reason it's not on my list is that I'm already seeing two jukebox musicals with the shows I have locked in, and would prefer to mix it up with a play, which is why Slave Play and The Sound Inside are my top two choices.

However, I'm open to recommendations, and I appreciate it.

What would you say you're looking for in a play?

Slave Play is shocking and provocative in dealing with racial and sexual issues. It's not my favorite thing I've ever seen but not my least favorite, and certainly different from the other stuff on your roster.

I know less about The Sound Inside but it appears to be a tense, small piece dealing with mental health.

You could also consider To Kill a Mockingbird, though it also has a very commercial feel if that's something you want to get away from for the afternoon.
