So here are a couple of theories about Hadestown. Tell me what you guys think.

-The Fates aren´t actual characters with personality and all that. They´re the others characters consciences. They don´t give any new information to anyone, they just twist what the characters already know. They´re the doubt and the dark sides of them. We can see this in songs such as When the chips are down, Word to the wise or Doubt comes in.

-The story is a cycle that is constantly repeating (Hermes says that they sing that love song again and again). I think that Hermes knows this and he witnesses everytime the story repeats. And he tries to change it everytime by helping Orpheus and warning him about the storm and all that. And he says "maybe it (the tale) will turn out this time" in Road to hell. And that´s why at the end of the musical (Road to hell reprise) Eurydice is there again asking if anyone´s got a match.

Isn't this literally how the story ends?

Neither of these are theories. They are very much in the text itself.

I’ve heard a theory that Hades and Persephone are actually Orpheus’ parents. Listening to the full cast recording today, I can hear snippets that may lead one to come to this conclusion. Thoughts?

Yes, this exactly.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It literally says he's the son of a muse. In myths, usually Calliope, muses of poetry, eloquence, and singing.

The OP is confusing "analysis" with "theories"

Yep, and his dad is either Apollo or a Thracian king named Oeagrus
