It was never going to go to Broadway and now it's definitely never going to go to Broadway.

I'd never have seen this in any case. Now The West Side Waltz with other characters on stage - that is, an actual play - might have been very interesting.

“The producers of ‘Tea at Five’ announced today that they have terminated their relationship with Faye Dunaway,” spokesman Rick Miramontez said in a statement. “Plans are in development to have its West End debut early next year with a new actress to play the role of Katharine Hepburn.”

Based on everything that had been stated in press materials, she had been engaged for the out of town run as a precursor to the (undoubtedly contracted) continuation on Broadway.

Sorry for the dumb question, but I haven’t been following anything about this play or this production. Why are people not surprised?
Unless something really scandalous happened, I would have expected the press release to go the usual route of using a euphemism like “creative differences.” I’m surprised to see it stated so explicitly and aggressively.
EDIT: I Just read Reilel’s thing about it. I usually take his column with a grain of salt, but based on the reactions here, it sounds this it’s pretty accurate

It’s referred to as “well received.” I wouldn’t say that at all based on the reviews. Didn’t most say it was slight and basic with no compelling arc? I don’t see any kind of name wanting to associate with this.

She's been pulling these, er, antics for years, and now it's dangerous. She should have been fired at the photo shoot. I don't buy the "She's not taking her meds" line, either. I have nothing but empathy for anyone struggling with mental illness, but Dunaway's "You must never look at me... You must never wear white... I hate this wig" sh*t seems to fall into the self-indulgent, ego maniacal loony tune category. Again, she's been doing it since BONNIE AND CLYDE. I'm skeptical that she's unwell, and if she is, a responsible person would not be going onstage, but getting help.

I'm glad the times have caught up with her. She took some things out on a person I know who worked backstage when she toured with Master Class at the Shubert in New Haven.

Long gone are the days when she was a rosey-cheeked teenager at Leon High School in Tallahassee, FL. My sister-in-law attended the school with her. Seriously doubt she had an attitude as a cheerleader and member of the spring court. No emaciated look then either.
Very sad.
I met her in San Francisco during the Master Class tour and she was very gracious, but some eccentric man approached her to pitch HIS version of Sunset BOULevard and was the recipient of a death stare. I believe that he instantly became an oily spot on Golden Gate avenue.
