It's a worthwhile idea and may very well become widespread. Although the easiest way to get around it - and I'm sure it's being done now - is to simply have two phones (everyone has an old one) and hand that one over to be locked. There's also unknown problems that may crop up in the future. For example who ever thought electronic cigarettes would turn deadly?

Every time I've been subject to a Yondr pouch, it was after a metal detector.

They aren’t if you aren’t stupid enough to make your own juices and put oil in it. Common sense would tell most people that inhaling oil in a device designed for inhaling steam is not a very bright thing to do x

Entitled people throwing a fit? in 2019? You don't say.

Seriously, if disgruntled people was a reason to not do something, you could never tell anyone the word 'no' nowadays. (How would knowing in advance of purchase change memorizing a seat?) If anything, they'll likely streamline this for the sake of time and starting the show on time. (Perhaps someone is there to quickly wirte the seat number on a card, etc.) That's a reason to do it, not people throwing fits, which they'll do anyway.

100 percent off topic, but someone said E-Cigarettes were not deadly if not misused. False. While they  drastically reduce health risks for regular smokers they also are responsible for turning millions of kids into lifelong nicotine addicts and at some point those kids will simplify things by switching to regular cigarettes.

Shubert is not going to foot the bill for the pouches just like Nederlander didn’t when there were those concerns there. They do, however, have contracts with the company that does the hearing headsets. This is simply because They find it to be a worthwhile investment to give patrons that need it for them to
Have a great experience.

They don’t feel the same way about the pouches. They aren’t
Going to say no if, say, the producers of say, Freestyle Love Supreme want them so long the producers foot the bill. That’s why they’ve been seen on Broadway

Bingo. It's the only reason these haven't hit Bway yet. Certain concerts have started doing it. Bjork did it at the Shed. Madonna is doing it at BAM.

I predict in 10 years, it'll be customary.

Björk didn’t do it when I saw her at The Shed (they just stated that no photos or video were allowed) and the audience was very polite and respectful.

I don’t think these things are the future. There are SO many ways to get around them, all you really need is a strong magnet and, like others have said, you can just rip them open. It would be a big waste of money to constantly replace the broken ones, when people can just use placer phones anyway.

So many schools have tried to implement these and failed cause kids are smart and know how to open the pouch. On concept, it sounds great but in execution, it fails

Yes, but at shows where they use these, anyone who does bring a phone out is immediately ejected with no warning, so... that is typically the other half of the policy when pouches are in use.

Then why not just have the eject patrons that use their phones policy in place and actually enforce it and skip the whole pouch thing...

At Hannah Gadsby's Douglas, they made sure you had put it on DND or shut it down before you put your device in the pouch. It worked really well. Admittedly, it is in a smaller theatre than a Broadway house.

While the theater owners do have exclusive agreements with the assisted listening device company, the producer of the show pays for it. I don't think it's the theater owners wanting people to have a good experience, rather it's them not wanting to get sued for not being ADA compliant.

This is a well-traveled path here (even though you wouldn't know it by reading this thread). The use of the pouches has zero to do with patrons and everything to do with the intellectual property on display. Why can't we get that through our heads? Landlords have no interest; producers have no interest; certain types of performers have a great interest.
