I’ve really been impressed with Euphoria. For those who are watching, I have a question about tonight’s episode. See spoiler box below:

Was McCay actually anally raped by those “frat” guys or was he hazed by them in a sexual way, short of penetration? It seemed ambiguous to me, perhaps intentionally? Either is of course immoral, but just wasn’t sure

I love the show! It's painfully powerful.

I thought he was just being beaten not raped but it was unclear.

The show has style to spare but I have mixed feelings about it. I’m not quite what it’s actually about or what the point is. I like Zendaya a lot, though.

Okay, this whole post is one huge spoiler so if you haven’t seen tonight’s season 1 finale, quit reading now.

I admire that this show refuses to give us much in the way of pat satisfying endings to plot lines or really many plot endings at all. But I was really hoping the character of Nate would get some sort of comeuppance tonight. But that didn’t really happen. Of course, the show has enough nuance to show that even when he is making major touchdowns and possibly winning back the girl that there is a deep level of anguish underneath it all. Still, I was more hoping for castration or the fantasy execution shown at the beginning. I may need to look at what that says about me, but maybe not right now because I have questions about tonight’s finale...

Maybe I wasn’t paying close attention earlier in the season, but how did Fez know that doctor had all that money in his house?

And was that the same person Rue hugged in her living room in that long end sequence? Was that her dad?

And was that Rue’s body on the monitors? On the stretcher? It appeared that the body on the stretcher was all covered up. So did she die? The final image seemed to suggest that. While realistic, I hope not. Zendaya was terrific in this.

And if she wasn’t willing to jump on that train with Jules because of how it would affect her mom and sister, would she really choose right then to use again? Or was that whole ending sequence a flashback to her overdose that happened before the beginning of the season?

Update: okay, I just watched entire episode again. That was her dad on the monitor, her dad on the stretcher and her dad’s hoodie. And that was her dad she hugged. Still not clear if she relapsed again after she left Jules at train platform and went back home or that was a flashback to overdose that landed her in rehab at beginning of the season. I’m guessing the latter, but it wasn’t clear.

Also, was that prom (I’m guessing not prom because football would be over well before prom) or some other school sanctioned dance? If so, they definitely had a lax dress code.

Well, I got my answer sort of. According to TV Guide, it was the winter formal. That dress code tho...

I don't think he was penetrated by any of them but he was definitely sexually assaulted and beat on.

I can't wait for next season! This show is one of my new favorites.

Me too. It’s wildly unrealistic and tends to glamorize the excesses of its character, but I can’t stop watching.

It’s so over the top and makes me never, ever want to have children…

BUT. The performances are outstanding, the cinematography is mind blowing, the costume and makeup design is inspiring (despite being totally ridiculous), and the characters swirl around in my head all day. Jules is going to be an icon for a generation. It’s obnoxiously provocative a lot of the time, but I just find it enthralling and extremely original. I’m in love.

Is it really worth being watched? I see that all people are so obsessed with this TV series and start thinking about watching it, but my experience with Squid Game stops me.

Absolutely had me on the edge of my seat. From week to week, the show can differ in tone, style and approach, which I love. Ever member of the cast is exceptional. It's like a high school after school special meets Studio 54. It's so entertaining I don't care how unrealistic it is. Also, Alanna Ubach is awesome in everything. She is a hoot.
