I'll be back in the city August 10-20th. I'm not dying to see any of the shows on Broadway that will be running at that time, besides Moulin Rouge (which I can't afford). What are some other shows, concerts, performances, etc that will be going on in the city at that time?

Also, any other general suggestions/recommendations of what to do or where to go in the city will be appreciated!

Have you been to any of the Third Rail Projects productions? Not sure If immersive performances are at all interesting to you, but Then She Fell out in Brooklyn was a wonderful evening. They are also starting a new one called Midsummer: a banquet in Union Square that we’re considering going to on our August trip. And we’ll probably also catch a show at the Comedy Cellar. But I’m mostly going to see Hadestown.

Fiddler on the Roof playing off b'way!  It's really lovely, seeing it a 2nd time later this month.

Also: on Weds (at noon?) there is the free b'way performances at Bryant Park (go early, bring sunscreen and a lunch).

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I second Fiddler in Yiddish.

And a correction-- The Broadway in Bryant Park concerts are on Thursday, not Wednesday.  The concerts start at 12:30, but the sound check starts at 11:30 and there's a better chance to score freebies if you get there early.  I got there at 11:45 today and they had already run out of t-shirts but i did get a popsicle.

Also, I'm not 100% certain, but I think the last concert is 8-8.

The Cher Show is running until the 18th. If you're familiar with her catalog throughout her career (though mainly the hits) I think it's a great time.

If you don't mind taking the L to Brooklyn, there's Company XIV's Queen of Hearts. It's not my favorite show they've done. Dance is less emphasized and it's more spectacle and production values. But if you have the patience for the variety of acts, there are some solid numbers.

I can't think of anything else that won't have already closed or has yet to open.

I just found out about the new Hannah Gadsby show Douglas. I haven't seen it but that seems like it might be worth checking out based on Nanette and the Jesse Green NYT review.
