Apparently of a heart attack which occurred 7/3 and took him early this morning, according to his daughter sasha who posted on FB. Mahtin (as he liked to say it) was such a good man and kind friend to all of us and especially that little Orphan
Love to Sasha, his wife Shelly, and the family. This is such sad news
It's easy to forget what an event the original production of 'Annie' was back in 1977, and it ran for many years. I think the score to 'Annie' was one of the best of the '70s. It was almost a throwback to the 1950s Golden Era because it was so tuneful and smart. Far superior to most of its contemporaries.
Annie and Bye Bye Birdie are both equally wonderful. I’ve only seen their movie versions just not on stage. Except for a MTI Junior version of Annie. And I’ve seen just most of All Dogs Go To Heaven up until Let’s Make Music Together

He wasn't involved with BYE BYE BIRDIE (that was the great Lee Adams).

Nor was he involved with ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN in any capacity so I’m curious who they have him confused with.

Charles Strouse wrote the music for Bye Bye Birdie, Annie and All Dogs Go to Heaven
