Which Two Shows on a Wednesday?#1
Posted: 7/5/19 at 6:13pm

I'm coming to New York in 2 weeks to see Roadshow at the City Center, but i have a Wednesday before then to see 2 shows...I'm thinking BEETLEJUICE cause i like what i saw on the TONYS, and also TOOTSIE because i am such a fan of the movie, and it seems like it would be a lot fun...I do not want to see this current revival of OKLAHOMA, and HADESTOWN sort of scares me off, much like i felt about THE BANDS VISIT last year...

Please any other suggestion?...HADESTOWN?...or??

Hadestown is nothing like The Bands Visit.

Go see Beetlejuice and Tootsie. That’s what you want to see and that way, even if you’re disappointed, you can’t blame anyone else.

I personally think that both Beetlejuice and Tootsie are hilarious and fun nights of theatre, so since you’re interested in both go for them! Plus cheap tickets are pretty easy to come by for both with discounts and TKTS.

FWIW, I was not a fan of the THE BAND'S VISIT at all, but I LOVED Hadestown.

Well, if you want to keep your expectations low - you picked two great shows.

I’ve seen all 3 and I think you’ll have a fun time seeing Beetlejuice and Tootsie. Go for it.

I hope you enjoy all that you do see!

FWIW, I wasn't keen on Oklahoma, but I won the lottery on a night I was free so I went.
I am very, very glad I did. Dark, disturbing and wonderful!

But Tootsiejuice was fun, too. Safe travels!

I saw Tootsie on a recent trip. It's flawed but very funny. I suspect you'll enjoy it. I didn't see Beetlejuice so can't comment. Discount tickets for both shows are easily obtainable.

Don't torture yourself about Hadestown. I enjoyed it more than the other new musicals I saw and think it's the better show with performances and stagecraft I'm very glad I saw. But that's just my opinion, and the cost to see it is higher. I wouldn't get too caught up about thinking that it won the Tony and you were disappointed by the last show that won the Tony. Different shows.

But as Miles2Go2 wrote above, you should see the shows you want to see, and for you, that sounds like Tootsie and Beetlejuice.

I was also underwhelmed by The Band’s Visit, and am convinced it only won all those awards due to an extremely weak year. Loved loved loved HADESTOWN — one of the great nights of theater going in several years.
