Am I the only one interested in this? If anyone here sees it this week, post your thoughts.

I'm hoping to go to the matinee tomorrow. I'll report back afterwards with my thoughts. I'm hoping this is more of a full on show (despite the Mindfreak Unplugged subtitle) than whatever it was that I saw Yanni do a few weeks ago at the same space.

In the interview here on BWW he said it would be a stripped back family friendly version and he would be telling stories as three different characters. Eh, I kinda would rather see the spectacle Vegas version as tacky as it may be.

I'm interested in magic, but he already came to my hometown within the year, so I'm good on him for now...

His Vegas show was everything you could want! Super tacky and fun and spectacle!

Overall, Criss Angel Raw : The Mindfreak Unplugged was an enjoyable hour and 40 minute production. Having never seen Criss Angel before, I can’t compare this show to his previous Vegas productions.

Before the show, you can go on stage and take a photo in the straight jacket he will wear later in the show. The line starts to form around 745 on the orchestra right side.

After a brief video package, Criss comes onstage and opens with his swallowing of the razor blades. Tough to watch at times but also fascinating. The camera showing the blades inside his body was the tipping point. After the opening routine, he takes off his makeup and tells us tonight is going to be different.

It’s a very loose three act structure, broken up by two visiting magicians, one who is a master at card manipulation, the other was the warm up act, by the name of Mike Hammer. Bother were fine and impressive in their own right but the energy seemed to drop when Criss was off the stage.

There were plenty of routines that involved members of the audience who appeared to be selected at random. Criss performed classic tricks and also said he was debuting a couple of new ones for his Broadway debut. If anyone has specific questions on what he does and doesn’t perform, feel free to message me. Besides the opening and closing trick, I’m leaving them out here for the sake of not spoiling anything for those who want to be surprised,

The ending is impressive. The entire audience stood as Criss levitated over the stage at the Lunt. He truly seemed humbled to be playing Broadway and talked about how it was a dream come true, how he’d been waiting for this since Mindfreak played at WWE New York from 01-03.

The orchestra appeared full and the stage door had a pretty big crowd waiting for him.

It was a fun time. If I was going to nitpick, I’d say there where times when things dragged a little but they were few and far between.

I’d love for someone to spoil his levitation trick!

the same way they do the levitation in Beetlejuice or Wicked.
