The Cher Show to close August 18th |
DAMN! Really enjoyed this show. Wasn't expecting to it have a long run but was hoping it make through to the end of the year.
Thought it has enough steam to last through the fall.....
I'm sad to see it go but the writing was on the wall. The theatre was half empty during the week. I thought the show was better in Chicago. It never caught on. It wasn't compelling from a book standpoint and they actually used too many of her unknown back catalog songs to appeal to the unwashed masses.SJB is giving a master class and I am very proud of her intensive work on this.
Cher needed to lay low from performing during this musical's run. Her energy should have been directed at promoting the show rather than pulling focus. However, I don't think any of her money is tied into it so why should she care. I think secretly she hates the show but praises the actresses because they impressed her. They should revive it after she passes.
I absolutely loved this show to pieces when I saw it in previews. I am sad to see it go.
I really thought this could make it to January.

Bob Mackie said on Radio Andy that Cher has money in the show.

Yes that was embarrassing. Beetlejuice actually seems to have been helped by their Tony performance.

No s**t, Narda. She’s one of the many producers of the show.

Being billed as a "producer" means nothing as far as having money invested in the show. Just ask Oprah, Bette Midler, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Alicia Keys, Whoopi Goldberg, etc (just to name a few).

I was responding to Bettyboy regarding the show not being Cher’s money.
A friend texted me "RIP Cher and King Kong." Had a mini heart attack, but turns out it's just the show. It seems like not many of this season's new musicals will last, save Hadestown, Beetlejuice, and ATP.
They are taking in over 800,000 pwe week which isn't too shabby.
Does anyone know what the weekly running costs are?
I loved the Cher Show. Its a guilty pleasure and the most fun I have had at a broadway musical

This is sad. I loved this show so much in Chicago , as complicated as it was I saw it more times than I care to admit- and was heartbroken when I saw it in New York and realized they had turned it into an amusement park ride. It definitely did not help that Cher was performing all over the country, including New York City during this run. I also wonder if SBJ had a Tony Winner clause in her contract and so suddenly the show got more expensive to run. I wish the cast and crew all the best.
