For me, there's no comparison to seeing a show live. I don't consider myself as even having seen it by just watching it on TV. Your mileage may vary.

I saw it on Broadway (had its issue but was overall creative and executed perfectly) and thought PBS didnt capture it as much as presented it, if that makes sense. The rain scene, particularly, was a real jolt to see live. Not sure what the economic aspects of this decision are, but I would absolutely see it (again).
I just saw it at the Ahmanson - entered the lottery, won first try, and got sixth row seats, which are easily the best seats I've gotten through one of their lotteries. So I'd recommend trying that route if money's an issue.
See it live. There are many economic options for tickets in the LA run.
