Yikes, she DOES NOT get it. Why is so hard for white people to understand that they have been privileged their ENTIRE lives? Why? Why? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.
One potential answer. Because some white people are taught to measure their success against each other. Given massive income inequality many consider themselves wanting and resent it. What many fail to realize is that privilage does not equal success. Being a poor and unhappy white person does not mean you haven't had more opportunities than others to change and aren't treated with more respect in public.
I do not plan to see, nor protest, this play. It sounds like David Mamet's Oleanna. A play designed to insult and provoke the audience. As I have the privilege to choose not to be insulted or provoked I shall spend my money elsewhere. The play will have a short run, as most plays do. It will be produced by a few "edgy" regional theatres. And then it will likely be forgotten.

Absolutely I agree, and well said. My main point was white people who complain about ANYONE being “racist against white people”, like, girl, come on. That’s my gripe. Any person of any color can have struggles and no success, that’s just how life is.
Reading the previous comments here shows a majority response from people who haven't even taken the time to see this play - so I don't think it is achieving as much notable biased rabble-rousing reaction as it strives for?
I found this to be an offensive & insulting piece to blacks whites gays & straights (& all that AFTER seeing it & really thinking about it & mulling it over.) I actually enjoyed the viseral experience & was thankful for my free tkt. It's acted well & the scenic prod. is good.
What I find unforgivable is how it basically tells a group of people ('priviledged' white, of course) that they 'take up too much space' in a centuries old racial dialogue. Today, I feel, we should be way more progressive than this? Bi-choices needs equality & freedom to express. This group of people don't come together. Nothing works for any one of the strivers. All is naught so there is no hope.🚽 (Unless some mixed couples find a better sex-life from further exploration of ideas they could have picked up from seeing it?)
To quote the Trip Advisor comment on the Golden Theatre pg. "Went not expecting such pornographic TRASH! It was a waste of our valuable time & money. Put a damper on our vacation." Response from ShubertOrg.Mgr. "Hi, Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the performance. Nonetheless, we thank you for your patronage. Best, Theatre Operations.
Any type of racism is repugnant- what difference does it make if the person is racist against whites, Asians or anyone else- racism is always ugly no matter which race is the victim- to minimize hate aimed at white people is absurd. All racial hatred is equally abhorrent.

“rac·ism noun prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.”

The worldwide prejudice is that white ppl are superior, light skin is superior. This cuts across all races and ethnicities. Therefore if white ppl are held up as a model of superiority and all institutions are designed to protect white ppl you can’t be racist against white ppl if you are fighting back against the injustices perpetrated on non-white ppl.
No one is denying white privilege and systemic racism. But treating someone like dirt because of the color of their skin is not justified because of how messed up our world is.
The point is that I/we (white people) have to acknowledge the history of oppression that was perpetuated by people who look like us against anyone who doesn’t and the system and ideology built around that. Prejudice, not racism, sums up simply not liking someone because they’re black/white/latinx/whatever pisses you off or is perceived as different from your “norm”.

That's not what racism is. That's just a new definition of the word that someone just made up in the '70s. But that's not how words work. You can't just decide on your own what they mean.
Ok let me rephrase. There's no systemic racism against white people. This is across the board. I went to Cuba two summers ago. Egalitarian, communist Cuba. I noticed that in this extremely diverse island the powerful positions were still given to white people.
Until things like this don't happen, white people dont get to complain of racism because they're the biggest beneficiaries of racism.
Here’s the problem with people today. You can’t decide what other people complain about. People are entitled to their opinions and no amount of woke language or demanding that people agree with you will change that. I’m not even disagreeing with you, there is a major problem with racism, colorism, and classism in this country and world. But throwing a fit because other people online don’t agree with every word you say will result in living a very frustrating life.

Um, since it's my opinion and that's exactly how I define racism, pretty sure I can decide on whatever I want, feel free to do that as well. I'm not going to take crap regarding my take on this. Anyone who doesn't get that being white is a huge advantage worldwide is beyond delusional. Thanks so much, though!

I’ve been to Japan. They were remarkably polite and kind. But I’m not white.

I can't speak to how Japan is or isn't. But of course, they were polite to you, you are Asian American. At least that is what you have stated about yourself on your Facebook page.
