I’ve wondered what message it would send if we all started going to the show and LIVING however we see fit.

Another one that really got me - our “food has no seasoning and neither does our witnessing”. So you’re basically telling me my opinion of your show doesn’t matter? Why should I give you my money then if I’m not seasoned enough for your show?

I sincerely hope he gets dragged for this and learns a lesson. The whole thing is ridiculous.

You might want to reconsider that statement.

*yawn* dragged is a figure of speech, as in “read” which we use when we don’t actually mean READ. You know that, but you’re enjoying being a pot-stirrer.

I’ve been on this board for ages and still can’t figure out how to post screen shots, or I would. But he has now tried to stoke it all as a racial issue, and is comparing call and response to texting during a performance. The entire thing is ridiculous.

I sincerely hope that his colleagues say something to him. It puts all of that cast in a very delicate position when they are already in one to begin with.

dont even bother with this sorta faux-outrage nonsense. ignoring it is the only way to make it go away.

Honestly, if Jeremy O'Harris is fine with people using their phones during his show, then that's great, but he should make sure his views are consistent with his cast and the theater staff.  He can't just wave away one incident with "but it's Rihanna" when other normal audience members are getting reprimanded for having their phones out, and we've all heard a lot of discourse from many performers talking about how hurt or distracted they've been after seeing a phone out from an audience member.

He may not be wrong with wanting to see how theater evolves and changing it to match his own experience, but I think everyone should be on the same page if he wants to enforce his views on everyone else.

Let’s see how long before he name drops or posts photos from a runway again....

I’d be shocked if his cast supports it.

That is what he is telling you, sadly. It's weird though since the majority of Broadway-goers are older, white people. I understand he is trying to change that, but it won't be that much different any time soon. Don't give him your money, he certainly doesn't care about it.

I appreciate the sentiment of changing the population of the New York theatre audience. But alienating more than half of that population to do it? I don’t know...

I have tickets for tomorrow night's performance that I got through Telecharge.  Apparently cell phone use is permitted to some degree at the show because I received the following tips in an email message from Telecharge this morning:

Silence your phone. Smartphones and mobile devices may only be used in airplance mode during the show for approved services and apps (no mention of what is actually approved).

The use of cameras and other recordig devices during the performance is strictly prohibited.

Complimentary wi-Fi is available.

Check your email, let your friends know where you are, and tweet about the show (but not during the show plase)!  --  I don't know if Twitter is one of the permitted apps mentioned earlier.

This ishow is the first where I've seen cell phone usae permitted to even to a limited extent.

Interestingly, the following tip is also included in the message:

Don't be late! (bold in the message). Your performance of Slave Play starts at 8:00 pm sharp.  Give yoursel plenty of time to get to the theatre.

(Unless you're a celebrity, then it's okay)

Since I don’t have enough “seasoning to witness” his work, I won’t ever bother doing so again. The arrogance of this guy. Unreal.

Very glad to see Lynn Nottage let him know what she thinks of it. https://twitter.com/lynnbrooklyn/status/1173419680041701376?s=21

No it's arrogant of you to harass him on social media and then expect it to end well.

The next thing you know, we'll find out they let her use the backstage restroom after the show... rather than queue up with the rest of the audience downstairs.

I have a lot of respect for Mr Harris having just followed his career (not on social media) and buying tickets to this play. As a 23 yo, I took his response more as "Phones are everywhere nowadays and people are constantly on them, there are worse things going on" rather than a "I don't care if you disrupt others enjoyment of a performance if you're my friend". Now, I disagree with this, phones shouldn't be used at all during the performance. But, that is just how I took his response. I somewhat understand, as I know a lot of people my age don't get distracted by others on their phone since "we" are typically on our phones just as much, but not in a theatre. Obviously can't speak for everyone or Jeremy, but this is my take on it.

Defending him just because you're obsessed with Rianna is gross.

This is probably referring to use of the GalaPro app.

No one is harassing anyone. I responded to a tweet and we engaged in discussion over it. Do you know what the definition of harassment is? Nice try, though.

And actually, I never expected it to end well. I am perfectly fine dying on this hill as he is ridiculous.

Know what IS arrogant? Sitting through a play on your phone after the play was held for you because your famous and couldn’t show up on time.

Whatever.

Another one for the ignore feature.

Thank you, EllieRose
