Debra Messing, Birthday Candles |
What excites me more is that it’s written by Noah Haidle. I’m not too familiar with his work, but I absolutely adored his play “Smokefall” which was at MCC several years ago, starring Zachary Quinto. It remains one of my favorite plays from the past 5 years or so. However, I think I was one of the few people who actually liked it. I don’t recall it getting very good reviews or word of mouth. So we’ll see how this goes. I will say fhat Roundabout’s involvement is NOT an encouraging sign.

I am curious how she is going to pull off playing a 17 yr old probably at the beginning of this play.

Debra has incredible range and a sharp sense of characterization so it’ll be implied. Michaela Diamond plays a tricycle riding toddler nightly in THE CHER SHOW and quite successfully so I’m sure Debra could even do an entire Act as a 17 year old if needed.

Sounds good, I appreciate the reply to my question.
Having witnessed as well as heard stories of her being rude to people at the stage door, I'm pretty put off by her in general and really wouldn't pay to see her unless it turns out to be an exceptional night of theatre.

I don’t think it’s fair to judge her by her behavior at the stage door, unless she did something blatantly offensive. Not every actor is good at putting on a smile for strangers, nor does she owe anything to the people clambering for her attention. It’s comments like this that give ammuniation to people who find stage-dooring objectionable (though I don’t personally).

I got the hiptix code, but by the time I logged in it was already sold out.

Oh my gosh thank you so much for the ACCESS10 tip!! I’ve never tried those because I always thought they’d sell out SO quickly but there was still availability for this show! Thank you!!

Another thank you for the code - was able to get tix for our April trip! So delighted! Anyone know how the view is from the rear mezz? At that price, I'm not complaining, regardless, but have never been to this theatre...

Rear mezz is great in this theatre, the last row of the rear mezz would usually be classified as the regular mezzanine at any other theatre.
I also got ACCESS10 tickets to this. Excited to see Messing on stage and it sounds interesting.

"Also valid today for "what the end will be", beginning mid-June
Once again I had major difficulty getting the access10 tickets. It seems every time they do something to make it different.
This time I started refreshing my browser at 9:58 and did it every ten seconds or so. Finally around 10:04am I tweeted Roundabout asking when they went on sale. They replied (quickly, I'll give them) and told me noon. Around ten minutes later I refreshed the browser again and they were on sale. I was able to grab seats so no harm there, but they gave me false information. I replied again and said so and they replied they would just delete the tweet with incorrect information.
For Rose Tattoo months ago they had a new code on their site (something like 1ACCESS101TIX) and after trying for 10 minutes it wasn't working. Then when it finally let me add seats to my cart it instantly said they were gone. I gave up and bought a HipTix for later in the run. When I reached out on twitter then they said that code was wrong and to use the usual one. That worked and they were nice enough to refund my HipTix because I sent them a screenshot of the incorrect code on their own site, causing me to spend more than planned.
It's a GREAT thing they do, selling as many $10 tickets as they do. I shouldn't complain, but it seems to happen with every show I've purchased in the past couple of years. Changing the day, the time, the system, the code, etc.
I had similar frustrations this morning. I called Roundabout last month and asked when exactly the Access10 tix would go onsale for Caroline or Change, and they told me in no uncertain terms, that they would go onsale this morning, the same day as Birthday Candles. I put it in my calendar and didn't question it. Only this morning, when I spoke to a representative on the phone, did I learn they went onsale a week and a half ago along with the regular tickets. Luckily we snagged Access10 for Birthday Candles this morning.
One upside is that I learned a bit more about the timing of the sales: apparently, the reason they had been staggering the Access10 date with the general public sales date (like with Rose Tattoo and Scotland PA), was because their in-person box office isn't open during the summer, and they didn't want to sell Access10 tickets online when the box office wasn't open in person (not exactly sure why). So for fall shows, the dates might be staggered, but for winter/spring shows, the Access10 date will be the same as general public sales.
