Ed Harris is the next Atticus Finch

Should we expect more major cast members to leave with Daniels? There are so many great casting options, I look forward to seeing what lies ahead for this play!

What has Ed Harris been doing lately? I know he was much respected back in the day.

He's been active Off Broadway the past two seasons I believe.  He did Buried Child which PBS also broadcast and was in Good for Otto.  Both were for Signature Theatre.  He was also on Westworld.

Good for Otto was The New Group, not Signature Theater, even though it was performed there, like most of The New Group productions. (That I’ve seen anyway)

I have to imagine LaTanya Richardson Jackson will leave (aren’t she and Sam based in LA?). Gideon Glick also said in an interview that he’s never done a show for more than a year and couldn’t see himself doing a longer run than that.

Something tells me Celia will extend her contract. It’s a great part and a good gig for a working actor.

I don’t really see Ed Harris selling a lot of tickets? His off-Broadway stuff hasn’t sold out. He’ll be good in the part and can get appearances on talkshows.

Is Jeff Daniels really the reason this show is selling so well? I don't think so (judging from the fact that Blackbird didn't sell that well) and I think the show will do just fine with Ed Harris in the role. The play's the thing in this case.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Exactly. Jeff Daniels sells Emma’s many tickets on his name alone as Ed Harris will. The show sells tickets all on its own.

You guys think Ed Harris’s name will be above the title too?

In the terms of critical success, Ed Harris is way more famous than Jeff Daniels and has had a more unique career with both movies and television.  I'm not really a fan of Jeff Daniels, but I would say he has more of the qualities that you think of Atticus Finch, than Ed Harris.  I would love to see Ed Harris in something on stage, but don't really see him as Finch.

I'm sure Ed Harris will be great, but at first I got him confused with Woody Harrelson who I would LOVE to see replace in this!

Ed reads much older than Jeff but perhaps that does not make a difference. I was rallying for Kristoffer Polaha.

To me, the craziest part of this story was that the Times article that broke the news said yesterday that the production planned to announce the casting Sunday via a NYT advertisement and they declined to comment (the article now says they confirmed the casting on Friday [today]). It read to me like someone in Rudin's office submitted the ad without an NDA or embargo agreement, and the Times used that opportunity to break it as news, right? I can only imagine what went down in Rudin's office over the past 24 hours...

Hopefully, this doesn’t affect Daniels’s departure date. My friend and I have tickets for the Saturday, September 28th matinee. If so, I’m sure whoever we see will be excellent.  As far as I know, Daniels is doing matinees currently, no?
