This is not uncommon at big-name comedy shows.

Yes, but it's a first for a Broadway theatre.

These pouches are garbage, if you want to get your phone out all you have to do is stick a key through them and rip.

I didn't do this but I saw videos and comments from people who did at a concert.

Personally I'll never attend a show that I have to do this because I find being treated like a child insulting. Just because a few morons can't turn their phones off doesn't mean I have to be treated like a child.

As stated in an earlier post, this is common practice at comedy shows, we went though this when he came to Houston. Yes, its "on Broadway" but its still his comedy tour

What stops you just not declaring a phone? So they do 'pat downs' like they would upon entry at a club or have x-rays? I don't get how it works.

"It’s the fractured quality in [Bernadette Peters'] singing voice and line readings that puts across the character as someone for whom resentment is sliding into madness." - NYtimes on Follies (2011).

Didn't LMM and Freestyle Love Supreme do this too like not even a few months ago?

I’ve brought this up in the other thread, but when I go to some game show tapings (in this instance, The $100,000 Pyramid), they make use of the pouches because the episodes tape far in advance and also can be possibly interpreted as cheating. Everyone pouches their devices and then go through a metal detector and bag check.

Would I like something like this for a Broadway show, sure, but I also know it would make everyone’s lives complete hell and people just need to learn how to silence AND turn off their mother-effing phones

It’s more freeing for the comic if Chapelle’s not worried about people recording him while he’s doing a set. It also could be because some of the audiences at these other “in residence” shows have been obnoxious. Phone use has become an epidemic.

Freestyle Love Supreme did use them (for the same reason), and if the rumors of them playing the Booth are true, I imagine the same would happen then.

I had to look twice to see if this was an old thread that I had written the above. 110% agree.

Did anyone grab tickets? I got a Verified Fan presale code and went in just now to find out the cheapest ticket is $250 — absurd. I’m thinking they may have been price-gauged due to demand. I wonder what they were priced at to begin with.
