Can we please talk about how fabulous this was!!! And were there more Broadway Karaoke's done at the Tonys?

Billy Porter's Broadway Karaoke

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

This was hilarious.

Billy Porter is every single one of us theatre kids, pretending like we‘re not ready to sing just before grabbing the mic and delivering a tour-de-force.

There was more karaoke. Ben Platt sang Tomorrow from Annie, and Anthony Ramos and Christopher Jackson sang 96,000 from In the Heights.

I love how he said he didn't need the lyrics then immediately messed them up. Didn't matter, this was pretty awesome.

Billy Porter is a national treasure. I know he;s busy with Pose now but I'd love to see Billy Porter back on Broadway in anything.

That was really fun to watch!  Too bad it didn't make the telecast.

Anyone else think Billy Porter should host the Tonys?

His outfits alone would brighten the evening!

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

His NYTimes profile said that's what's working up towards and it would be a dream. He really would be perfect. I expect a Lola bit

Caption: Every so often there was a rare moment of perfect balance when I soared above him.

I thought the same thing. He should definitely be the host for next year! He would be phenomenal. People would watch it for the outfits alone! His voice is out of this world and he has a larger than life personality.

James Corden was off for some reason this year. Either he did not trust the material or he felt he needed more rehearsal.

My other suggestion would be Jake Gyllenhaal.

I thought James Corden was - and has been - fabulous!

His quick wit (he was hilarious during the untelevised bits), his talent and his heart for all things theater make him a wonderful host.

All of the karaoke bits were great - but Billy knocked his out of the part. The entire audience was on their feet for him!

I've always had this dream of Billy Porter singing Dolly. Just imagining him walking down the stairs in that red dress ...

The commercial-time karaoke bits I've seen online are loose and hilarious, and it looks like many of the B'way performers in attendance were having a blast. I bet the Oscars aren't any fun during the commercial breaks, everybody seems so serious and almost grim.

There's no people like show people!

The Tone Awards are, without a doubt, the most fun of all the Awards show I’ve had the good fortune to attend.

After John Stewart went to Washington I thought Billy Porter should take a trip to stand up for transgender rights. I realize he is not transgender, but his rage would be on par with that of Mr. Stewart. We need more of that sort of thing in Washington.
