I'm trying not to be such a Broadway snob and explore the offerings at places like Second Stage and other off-Broadway locations. Anyone have any predictions on some of those must see shows?

What time period?

Fairview @ TFANA https://www.tfana.org/current-season/fairview/overview

Check out Signature's 2019/2020 season: http://www.signaturetheatre.org/shows-and-events.aspx Their shows are so affordable.

Also, just look at Second Stage's season and choose a show that speaks to you. Don't worry about what's going to be the next must-see.

Atlantic's season also looks great. Still waiting to hear what St. Ann's season will bring us.

59e59 might be the best bang for your buck. Roundabout Underground has been pretty strong of late. TDF has some great deals on off-Broadway. You can also get $9 tickets to off-off-Broadway shows.

Yiddish Fiddler on the Roof is amazing.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

For off-broadway shows, I would suggest:

Public Theatre, Atlantic Theatre Company, 2nd Stage, Signature, St Ann's Warehouse, 59E59, Roundabout, etc.

What I usually do is check out buzz on the board and scoring on show-score website. Those information helps me choose what to see.

Like others said, TDF offers some really good deals on off-broadway shows.

OH MY GOODNESS I just saw that Signature is doing work by Anna Devere Smith!!! I studied that piece in high school! Thank you so much--I'll definitely keep an eye out for when those tickets go on sale!

I like Classic Stage Company, Bushwick Starr, Park Avenue Armory and Ars Nova in addition to some of those mentioned above (Atlantic, Signature, The Public, St Ann’s, 59E59).

Sing Street at NYTW looks promising for next season in addition to the new THERESA REBECK play at MCC

While more commercial, Puffs is the funniest show I've ever seen in NYC.

Also on my radar is the new Duncan Sheik Musical Bob&Carol and Ted& Alice... though a New Group production makes me cautiously optimistic

I haven't heard of this... Duncan Sheik has now gotten productions on stage for "Alice by Heart" and "Secret Life of Bees" as well as this all in one year? I know his work on it may have been previous to now, but still it is hard to get shows produced and he will have had three in one year.

As others have noted (theater groups and individual theaters):

The Atlantic, Signature Theater, Roundabout, 2nd Stage, Primary Stages, Playwrights Horizon, The Public Theater, NY Theater Workshop (NYTW) and anything at Lucille Lortel, Barrow Street, Cherry Lane, BAM (Brooklyn), Theater for a New Audience (Brooklyn), 59E59, Lara Pels, Irish Repertory Theater.

There are plenty of very rich theater to be seen off-Broadway. I see a handful of off-Broadway in addition to hitting most of the Broadway offerings on my 2-3 trips a year to NYC. A good amount of productions make a transfer to Broadway houses, and you get to see the next hot ticket early on and for lesser prices (but you also sometimes get it earlier in the development and what transfers is not quite what you saw).

Make a favorites-folder in your browser and save the off-bway theatres mentioned here. That's what I've done and it makes it easier to stay up to date with what's going on.

Also, I'll add:

LCT3: https://www.lct.org/lct3/ - Marys Seacole was amazing there this spring. $25...

I saw the production when it was downtown and it was so, so special to see it in the language it was originally written in. 100% agree.
