I'm the opposite. I like Beetlejuice's songs and I don't care as much for the Maitlands or the parents. I'm not as big a fan of "Dead Mom" like everyone else seems to be. I enjoy the performance but I don't really care for the song. "Home" is better.
After all the negativity I had heard about the show, I cautiously downloaded this to give it a listen and I’d say I’m 70% pleasantly surprised. I’m not a big fan of Brightman (almost no nuance, he’s giving full on Keaton way to soon instead of building up to it). I don’t like many of Beetlejuice’s songs with a couple exceptions, but I really love everyone else’s material. “No Reason”, “What I Know Now”, “Home”, “Dead Mom”, “Barbara 2.0”, and “The Girl Scout” are all very fun and catchy.
Agreed! Love Lydia’s vocals. And I think the music is fun and catchy. Maybe a little too “Broadway” for a show that’s suppose to be quirky and off beat. But it’s not a trainwreck! Just hope they showcase that tonight. I fear leading with a Brightman-led song might turn people off.
I'm impressed that they really did apparently work hard on this show between DC and Broadway. It's like the opposite of King Kong. I was fully prepared to never willingly listen to this score ever again but the cast recording comes across really well - the Minchin comparisons are apt.

I'm kind of impressed too. I was fully expecting something completely different based on the reviews here and I kind of enjoy the score. Of the albums released on Friday, Beetlejuice, Tootsie and Kiss Me Kate, Beetlejuice is the only one to get repeated listenings from me.
