"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
She sold about 2 tickets in Milton Keynes. Bad producing. Who in their right mind would think anyone would know her there?
The website suggests that they didn't pay her in my opinion, and the only reason they wouldn't pay her is if the ticket sales couldn't cover it:
Due to circumstances beyond the control of the Artist, this planned UK tour will not proceed.
"We regret to announce that we are unable to present our planned UK Tour with multi award-winning actress Bernadette Peters, as a result of Speckulation Entertainment Ltd’s unforeseen inability to fulfil our contractual obligation. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. Online bookings will be refunded automatically. Patrons who booked via others methods should contact their point of purchase for a full refund.”

John Owen Jones said in response to a post about the cancellation, "Having had my fingers burnt, I'd suggest anyone in the business avoid working with Speckulation Entertainment Ltd at all costs." Sounds like it's some shady business that has nothing to do with BP as a performer.
Bernadette puts on a great show. I've seen her in concert a few times. A tour of the UK is, I think, somewhat ill-advised. Could you see Elaine Paige trying to pull off a U.S tour?
Who knows, maybe Elaine has done that, but the comparison was the first thing that came to mind as I was reading through this string...

Totally different person but Brisbane has Megan Hilty performing on 20th June and ticket sales are not good. Dress circle closed and less that half sold in stalls. Got an email all tickets now A$99.00. Saw her last year with a combo and she was brilliant; this time with a 40 piece orchestra so that's a lot of people to pay.
Megan Hilty in BRISBANE? hahaha. God some of these producers are a little ambitious. I would have thought Sydney and Melbourne would be hard enough. Hell - Chita Rivera could not find a large audience in Sydney when she came a few years ago.
I do lament that the market for the entertainment we are into is not a bit larger and more international. But ah well.

I saw Megan Hilty perform in Melbourne in 2016 and it was virtually sold out. If not sold out then very close to capacity.
The producer, Neil Eckersley, runs both Neil Eckersley Productions and Specktaular Productions so the fact he released a statement blaming his other company is laughable. He’s already cancelled Kristen Chenoweth, Bring It On UK Tour and Wonderland UK Tour.
Brisbane was almost to sold out last time so possibly thought, there is an audience there, let's go bigger. Promoters take the chances to bring to my shores people that I would never see otherwise, so thank you for taking that risk.
So sad--still on Megan. Just got another email, all tickets A$69. Nothing moved at 99. What happened to all those who came in 2016, how could they not want to see her again? Did Smash have something to do with it?
At least whoever will be there will probably be mostly Very Happy Chappies.
I moved back to Scotland otherwise I’d jump at the chance to see her again. She was incredible last time and so humble. I loved her personable she was and she made the huge room feel incredibly intimate.
More about me, sorry, and still not about Bernadette.
Just bought a ticket for the night before the 'other' Megan; yes for Megan Mullally and Beth--what a fabulous two nights in Brisbane that will be. There won't be a queen on a couch in ANY suburb.
Ms Peters played a show here in Vancouver with the symphony Thursday night. I didn't get tickets due to a prior engagement. Tonight (Saturday) the VSO was scheduled to do an outdoor concert with Queen Latifa. Unfortunately, she had to cancel due to step throat. BUT, Ms Peters agreed to stay in the city longer & perform her show with the VSO agsin at the outdoor concert. As well, the VSO announced yesterday that the show will be free. They had planned another free concert for Sunday aftetnoon, without any guest stars, but they may have cancelled that concert. I had been planning to see Toy Story 4 tonight, but that can wait!
Not sure why they decided to change the concert & make it free after Queen Latifa cancelled. They are still doing their free annual Canada Day concert tonight. No idea how ticket sales were for Latifa. Anyways, I only heard about the change by chance on the car radio yesterday morning. For rock concerts, where everyone is standing & they don't allow lawn chairs, Deer Lake Park holds about 10,000. Last night the park looked full, but everyone was on chairs they brought or blankets - no one standing - with comfortable spacing instead of being crammed like at rock concerts. The far parking lots were also empty, unlike at sold out rock concerts. So I'm guessing only maybe 5/6,000 people. Lots of families with kids out picnicing for a free show, many who didn't seem to know what they were there to see. I only got there at about 7, so was at about middle of the lawn. From sounds from the front later, die hards must have set up a few hours earlier. The symphony played a few Bernstein pieces first with the regular conductor; & hearing the West Side Story Suite really made me ache to see a well sung production. Hopefully, no matter what concept the upcoming NY production has, they cast good singers. After an intermission to move chairs about, Peters came on with her own conductor. I imagine she did the same show she does on tour. It was wonderful, she was charming, her voice is still great, she did almost everything you would want her to sing. Some highlights for me were No One is Alone, Children Will Listen, Send in the Clowns, & Being Alive. She did some fund stuff from South Pacific & Carousel, Fever - the Peggy Lee song - & a long bit with dialogue & scenes from Hello Dolly. It was wonderful, though unfortunately there were a lot of people who were there just because it was free & didn't really appreciate what they were getting - like people chatting through it all, familes who were leaving once the sun set & it got cooler (though I won't fault those with small children). I just tried to tune everything else out & enjoyed a splendid evening, an unexpected gift.
