I don’t think I like this idea.

It's hard enough to find one actress who can really hit the notes that Eva has to sing, and now they're trying to find two?

So does it look like Patti LuPone would be turned away from this casting notice because she is not 'latinx'?

Or do ya think maybe just because she's not "between 20-30 years old"??

I mean if a hypothetical young Patti LuPone auditioned today.

Patti Lupone would be turned away, she is not a person of color. Diversity is pretty important, especially in art.

Not to be That Guy, but this is really more about inclusion, not diversity. Having an entirely Latinx cast is not diverse, but IS representative of the people whose story is being told. And, for Evita, is obviously the right way to go.

This is the same reason that schools that have a minority majority, like North Bergen High School of Alien fame, have low diversity scores.

Sorry but this is a case example of why these casting notices are so dangerous. And it makes even less sense because Eva Peron was ethnically a white woman. "Representative of the people whose story is being told" - don't see how this would be a Brazilian's story, or a Mexican's story....this is just so silly.

Oh well, it was good while it lasted. Thankfully we got Patti LuPone's definitive and groundbreaking performance before the PC police came in. We are literally saying that in 2019 it is no longer appropriate for Patti LuPone to play Eva Peron. This. Is. Madness.

Yes, White, Hispanic. As opposed to me, White, non-Hispanic.

Yassssss love and respect and diversity and other nice sounding words.

I’ll go and listen to LuPone’s rainbow high and you can feel free to listen to Elena Roger’s. At the end of the day we need you to sing those notes gurl. It shouldn’t matter if you’re black OR white OR Asian OR Latinx. In fact, the idea that black and Asian people are excluded from this casting seems appalling. We can’t have a black Eva? We are living in a new Middle Ages.

You can be Black and Hispanic/Latinx. You can be Asian and Hispanic/Latinx. The thing about Latinx is that it DOES cover a broad swath of races. So there is the element of racial diversity, but not as much with ethnic diversity.

I think I’m getting it. So the way to be inclusive is to exclude all black people or Asian people unless they have at least a vague cultural connection to a continent that may or in most cases may not actually have anything to do with Argentina? Makes sense. #inclusivity #love #equalopportunity

“We’re really proud of our casting decisions here at city center. By offering this role exclusively to one class of people we show how inclusive we are to letting all people have the opportunity to work in this wonderful musical.”

Asian American girl: “Can I play Eva”? City Center: “Sorry gurl we’re being inclusive here so you’re excluded. You’re going to have to the wait to the next revival of the King and I”

Says the person that wanted Patti Lupone (a non Hispanic White woman) to be able to audition for Evita in 2019? How confusing. It seems like you changed your entire view half way through this thread. Am I correct?

I think anyone would be able to audition and play Eva regardless of their ethnicity or cultural background. I am the only one who is genuinely inclusive about this issue. If you only want people with a vague connection to South America to play the role fine - but don’t call yourself progressive or encouraging diversity or inclusion. It’s the very opposite. I would love to hear a North American black female powerhouse singer play this role - or LuPone reprise her role - or if they are indeed the most talented a Latina person play the role. We should be genuinely inclusive of everyone and focus on what matters. The talent.
